5.30 pm Chasing nearly six on a slow pitch is never fun, but an educated guess is that batting under lights might be a bit easier. England have done all they can after being put in, with Joe Root looking in sublime touch for 71 off 75 - he maintained that tempo while hitting only five fours - and Jos Buttler playing a hand he is fast becoming famous for. Comes in around the 30th over and swindles runs no one thought possible. The only reason he didn't take the total past 300 is because of Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi daring to bowl slow in the death overs. The game is set up superbly, so do join us in half an hour to see how the chase pans out.

Joey: "How can they have got a run off the last ball? It's a dead ball when the finger is raised, whether the decision stands or not, surely?" --- Hmm. That actually sounds quite reasonable.

Ferhad: "The run was completed before the finger went up. Perhaps same as batsmen crossing before a catch is taken?"

Southee to Willey, no run, gets him lbw with Willey swinging across the line. He does want a referral though. It all starts with a full delivery, pitching on leg stump and hitting the back pad in line with off stump. The angle seems like it would be taking it past the stumps. Massive inside edge too. That means Willey and England get a run

Southee to Willey, OUT, yorker on off stump, Willey plonks it back down the pitch, Buttler is racing down to re-take strike. Southee reaches to his right, grabs the ball with one hand, and runs it to the stumps. Super innings from the finisher. Even with New Zealand bossing the last 10 overs, he's taken England to a strong total

Southee to Buttler, 1 run, another heave, but he mistimes the shot, and a length, ripe for a tonk, goes out to deep midwicket.

Southee to Buttler, SIX, sits up and Buttler launches it over midwicket! The slower ball lands on a length and has ample room for Buttler to bring all his power to bear down on it

Southee to Willey, 1 run, slogs it out to long-on

Southee to Willey, FOUR, unlucky! The wide yorker lands perfectly. Willey gets an inside edge. It basically dribbles dead straight to the boundary behind him. Poor Latham. He's moving to his left based on the angle and ends up having to change direction with no time to do so
