1.4 gone! Back of a length, too close to off stump to cut, and he goes at it with an angled bat and chops it onto his stumps off the inside edge. Not the greatest comeback for Dhawan, so far 1/1
11.2 what a delivery, he's been beating the outside edge repeatedly with this one that angles in and straightens, but he goes a little wider of the crease - possibly as a consequence of that warning - bowls it a couple of inches fuller, and that narrows the angle of the movement and ensures it clips Vijay's edge as he feels uncertainly for it. To be fair to Vijay, he had to play because it would have hit off stump had he missed. A superb delivery to give New Zealand their second breakthrough of the first hour 28/2
69.1 fullish outside off, and Wagner's tactic has finally worked. He had had a short cover in position for the last couple of overs, as a catching fielder of sorts, and Pujara has finally played an uppish drive straight into his hands. Third half-century in three innings, and he's not pleased with himself for not converting this one into a hundred. Excellent innings, though, to help rescue India from a truly sticky situation 187/4
21.4 gone! Kohli, Kohli, chasing at a ball wide outside off. This was full, but not quite a half-volley, and on a pitch with this sort of bounce, you shouldn't be playing with an angled bat. Ends up slicing it off the outside half of his bat to gully, where Latham takes it brilliantly, leaping to his right and grabbing it over his head 46/3

77.4 big appeal, and Patel has struck twice in two overs. What a comeback! Excellent delivery, Rahane going back to the flatter one, playing the trajectory rather than the length, and ending up playing across it. He's back in his crease, hit in front of middle and leg, and the ball would probably have gone on to hit a big chunk of leg stump 200/6
73.1 Gone, gone, Patel has struck. Excellent delivery, a bit of turn and bounce. Goes back to work it into the leg side, but its gotten a little big on him and he inside-edges it, off the high part of the bat, to the diving Latham at short leg. Excellent catch, falling forward 193/5

83.6 lbw appeal, given! Came back into Ashwin as he tried to drive towards mid-on, and missed his inside edge and hit his front pad. In front of middle and leg, but would that have hit leg stump? Maybe, maybe not. Ashwin played from the crease, as he tends to do, the lack of a front-foot stride creating the distance between his bat and the pitch of the ball 231/7

96.2 tactic works right away! The short ball, as expected, shoulder-high. Jadeja takes it on, and hooks it straight to long leg 272/8
99.4 Out this time, but was this hitting leg stump? Another slider, Bhuvneshwar defends, playing for turn, and it goes past the inside edge and hits front pad. This time Tucker raises his finger, and Santner, who's bowled very well, has his first wicket 281/9
104.5 another bouncer, and that's a spectacular catch on the long leg boundary by Henry. Shami hooks it, connects well enough but hits it in the air, and Henry runs around to his right and dives to catch it with both hands 316/10

2.4 bowled him! It's the line that does Guptill, so close to off stump that he's a little indecisive about playing or leaving. Lifts his bat a little late, it bounces a little more, and hits his elbow and ricochets onto the stumps 18/2
1.5 and strikes immediately! Angled into the stumps, good length, comes in off the seam just a little to beat the inside edge as Latham is forced to play around his front pad to defend. Hits pad in front of middle stump, and Richard Kettleborough has no hesitation in giving that out 10/1
6.4 another batsman plays on! Again Nicholls is shuffling across his crease to a back-of-a-length ball, and this time he jabs with an angled bat and inside-edges onto his stumps. He was still on the move as he played his shot 23/3
28.1 and he strikes immediately! Beautiful line, beautiful length, and Taylor jabs at it without really moving his feet, and nicks to first slip. Didn't do all that much, but the line put the doubt in Taylor's mind 104/5
24.4 big lbw appeal, and this time Rod Tucker gives it out. Again it slid on, hurried on with the arm, and Ronchi was only half-forward in defence. This one, to me, seems to be missing leg stump. The Hawkeye tool on your scorecard (the icon has a set of stumps and a ball trajectory) suggests it would have missed as well, though not by much 85/4
32.1 Angles into the stumps, keeps a little low from back of a length, and hits his back leg as he hurriedly tries to bring his bat down to defend. As plumb as it can get 122/6
50.2 gone! A bit of reverse into Watling, quite full, and the best way to play these balls is to get a big stride forward so that even if it swings in and beats your inside edge, you're hit on the pad outside the line of off stump. Watling didn't do that. His front leg was planted a short way forward, in front of middle stump, and he stood no chance 187/9
32.2 whoa, he's bowled him first ball, and Bhuveshwar has a five-for. Back of a length, angling in and nipping in a little more. Stays a little low again, Henry doesn't go forward or back, and it goes past his inside edge and hits off stump 122/7
47.1 and he strikes immediately. Tossed up nice and slow outside off. Patel aims for cow corner, and ends up skying a catch to mid-off moving to his right. I think the drift undid him here. It drifted away, pitched, and didn't turn, just went on with the drift 182/8
52.6 gone! The question was whether it pitched in line. He's bowling over the wicket to a left-hander, but it's fairly full. Stays in the crease and tries to punch down the ground, bat comes down at an angle, going towards wide mid-on. Ball misses his inside edge and hits his front pad. Ball pitched just on the edge of a leg-stump line. Not sure half of the ball was in line 204/10

10.5 good ball, nips in, and New Zealand have another lbw. Dhawan was going across the stumps as he looked to defend from the crease, and his front pad ended up coming in the way of his bat. Pitched on or just outside off stump, and hit pad in front of middle. Excellent delivery, not the greatest footwork from Dhawan 34/3
5.4 Henry gets Vijay again. And again it's a beautiful delivery, seams away after angling in towards off stump. Vijay comes forward to defend, and nicks to second slip. If you can fault the batsman, he was still on his way forward, and hadn't transferred his weight fully, and hadn't come far enough forward to minimise the effect of the seam movement 12/1
7.5 full, hits the front pad again, and this time Kettleborough gives it out! Again it was angling in a long way, and Pujara's front pad, having come across in his forward press, was moving away from the line to try and make some space for the flick. It hit the outside of his pad, cut back in quite sharply, and it looks like it might have missed leg stump. Looks even worse in a slomo front-on replay with the tramline drawn in. Pitched on off, hit the outside of his pad in front of leg stump 24/2
23.6 gone, is he? Yes, says Richard Kettleborough! Shuffled across to defend this short ball angling into him, and it kept extremely low. Hit him at shin height. Little he could have done about it, except maybe shuffle outside the line. And the impact may well have been an inch or so outside off stump. The on-field umpire can't see tramlines on the pitch, though, and it isn't an unreasonable decision 91/5
13.1 short on off stump, Rahane goes for the pull, and New Zealand have their fourth! I don't know if it bounced any more or less than expected, he just ended up playing under it, didn't get his hands high enough in his backlift, maybe, and top-edges to long leg 43/4
60.2 got him, no century yet in this series. Flat length ball outside off, spins away pretty sharply, and Rohit isn't forward or back while defending. Gets a thin outside edge to Ronchi 209/7
30.3 gone! That looked out as soon as Santner turned around to appeal. Pitches around off stump, straightens just a bit, but doesn't turn as much as Ashwin expects while coming forward to defend and his pad comes in the way of his bat. Ball hits pad before bat, in line with middle stump 106/6

60.6 goes for another big slog, and this time he doesn't get hold of it. Santner slowed it down, it pitched shorter than Jadeja would have liked, and turned and bounced and he ended up slicing underneath the ball and skying it to Neesham, the substitute fielder at square leg 215/8
73.4 finally, a wicket. Short ball at the body, and for once Bhuvneshwar doesn't get on top of the bounce. Looks to turn it into the leg side, and pops up a simple catch a couple of feet to the right of short leg 251/9
76.5 Tom Latham falls to his left, scoops up a low-flying ball, and comes up claiming a catch at third gully (New Zealand have no slips, only gullies), and Rod Tucker soft-signals out and goes to the third umpire. Stays back to a length ball, Shami, and plays down the wrong line. The angle takes his outside edge. Replays, as always, are a little fuzzy, some of them suggesting his fingers are under the ball, some suggesting he may have grounded it. Will CK Nandan, the third umpire, go with the soft signal? He does, and India are finally bowled out 263/10

53.3 got him, and that's a beauty of a delivery. Floated it up high and inviting, wide of off. Drives away from his body and nicks to Saha. Didn't get to the pitch of it at all 141/4
16.5 gone! Again that dip, again it turns in from outside off, but this time it pitched fuller, and hit his front pad juust about in line with off stump when he came forward to defend. Umpire Kettleborough thought about it for a couple of seconds and then raised his finger. Guptill's front leg was just about a foot outside the crease. His back leg was a long way inside the crease. Strange position to defend from 55/1
35.5 change of angle does the trick! Good length, pitching just outside off and going on with the angle across the batsman. Nicholls isn't fully forward, can't cover the lack of turn, and gets an outside edge that flies to Rahane at slip. Excellent delivery 104/2
42.6 drift, beautiful drift, and Ross Taylor plays down the wrong line. His bat goes from gully towards wide mid-on, as it often does, and the ball drifts away, turns in just a little, and beats his outside edge to hit his front pad. Richard Kettleborough didn't hesitate to give that out, and I suspect it was plumb, hitting in front of middle and off or thereabouts. In front of off stump 115/3

66.1 back of a length, this one goes on with the angle as Ronchi makes room to play through his favourite region square on the off side. Hurries into him, and he jams his bat down to try and keep it out but can only inside-edge into his pad and then into the stumps 175/7
58.4 fullish, angling in from wide of the crease, and Richard Kettleborough upholds a confident shout from Shami. Strikes in front of off and middle as it beats the inside edge of his defensive shot. Fair enough decision at first glance, but he went really wide of the crease, so it may just have missed leg? Hawkeye (the one on our scorecard) says it's clipping leg stump 154/5
60.4 bowled him! Shami is on fire here, takes off in the Shoaib Akhtar/Allan Donald aeroplane celebration. Reverse into Watling, and for some reason it beats his outside edge as he looks to push through cover and takes out off stump. It straightened a bit off the pitch, that's why. Such a difficult ball to play 156/6
76.1 tossed up, and finally Jadeja gets Henry. Kohli had returned to the field in the previous over, and now he's at short cover to grab onto this uppish drive from Henry, to a ball tossed up on off stump. Reflex, one-handed catch to his right at shoulder height 190/9
67.3 now it's Bhuvneshwar's turn to hit top of off. This swings in from a good length, and Patel plays a poor shot, no footwork, looks to drive on the up away from his body, and leaves a big gate with a 'Welcome to Stumpsville' sign draped across it 178/8
