Vijay races off to the dressing room, India will bat again. They've got a lead of 258 and with two days left, they can bulk it up big time and give their four bowlers some respite. They've just pushed through 90 overs of Test cricket after all.

New Zealand's openers added 118. To fall for 299 after that would sting. They crumbled after lunch, losing five for 30 runs. Ashwin was the wrecker-in-chief, but it wasn't because he could just put the ball right there for it to do magical things. He found loopholes through Tom Latham and Ross Taylor's techniques. He deceived Kane Williamson with his line - pushing the ball wide to tempt him to cut, when it wasn't short enough for it. It was an exhibition of well thought out spin bowling - a 20th five-wicket haul for him in only 39 Tests.

James Neesham, coming back into the squad from injury, and Martin Guptill, having had several failures leading up to Indore hit half-centuries. Neither man is noted for playing spin well. But after they got through the initial jitters, they trusted on the strength of their timing and found runs relatively quickly. Just couldn't build that big innings New Zealand desperately needed considering they had begun batting after India had made 557. And then again, Neesham was lbw having been struck outside the line of off stump and Guptill was run-out while backing up at the non-strikers. Two awful ways to go

Nikhil Mane: "Most international wickets since Ashwin's debut - Ashwin 407, Anderson 406, Broad 388, Steyn 371"

Ashwin to Boult, OUT, Ashwin has six! shimmes down, looks to heave it towards midwicket, gets a top edge and Pujara takes the catch. A superb one at that, because the ball went so high. Backtracked from midwicket and pulled it off serenely

Ashwin to Henry, OUT, seems to have dropped the catch coming back at him, but with the ball hitting the stumps could Patel be run out? Oh yes! Ashwin's pulled off a second of these. Some good work deceiving the batsman in flight, Henry drove at the ball, looking for the covers, ended up inside edging it. Ashwin was concentrating on the catch. Fumbles it, but is lucky enough that the ball went onto the stumps and Patel, backing up, couldn't put his bat down in time even though it was pushed behind the crease
