5.01pm: We have a new world record: this is the 4,880th men's ODI, and the first in which a team has reached 400 without a single batter scoring a century. It is also the first time that seven batters have scored 30-plus in an innings. An excellent team effort from England, with a relay-race of a batting innings: the baton went from Smith, to Duckett, to Root, to Brook, to Buttler, and finally to Bethell and Jacks, and they maintained a strong pace throughout. Alzarri Joseph was the standout for West Indies, but they won't look back on that bowling effort with any fondness.

Anisha: "The scoreboard still looks aesthetic and neat."

Professor: "400 without a single hundred! Impressive team work"

The highest target that West Indies have successfully chased in a men's ODI is 328 against Ireland six years ago... can they haul in 401 in Birmingham? Andrew Miller will be here after a brew to talk your through their attempt.

Seales to Carse, 4 byes, beats everyone! England reach 400. Carse shuffles leg-side, Seales nutmegs him with a yorker, and Hope is completely flummoxed as it flies past him, down to the boundary. A sloppy end to a sloppy bowling innings for West Indies

One ball to go. England four away from 400, Seales one away from a five-for.

Seales to Rashid, 1 run, tailing low full toss, Rashid stays leg-side of it and digs it out into the off side

Seales to Carse, 1 run, full, cramping Carse for room. Gets a thin edge on it, which dribbles towards short fine leg

Seales to Rashid, 1 run, full and straight, stabbed into the leg side via the inside edge

Adil Rashid, in his 150th ODI. Unusual areas, first-class hundreds, wrists.

Seales to Bethell, OUT, feathered through to Hope! No hundred for Bethell today either, but he has played a brilliant innings of 82 off 53 to take England towards 400. Looked to slap hard over the off side, but it was a fraction wider than he anticipated, and he could only get a thin edge on it

JG Bethell c †Hope b Seales 82 (95m 53b 8x4 5x6) SR: 154.71

Seales to bowl the 50th. Bethell, who has never scored a hundred in professional cricket - let alone international - has 82. Three men out on the off side.

Joseph to Carse, no run, beaten for pace. Carse looks to pull through the leg side but can't get bat on it. Joseph finishes with 2 for 69, but bowled much better than those figures might suggest

Joseph to Carse, no run, looks to swipe the short ball over the leg side as Joseph targets the chin with an 87mph/140kph bumper. Can't lay bat on it, but gets his head out of the way

Joseph to Carse, 2 runs, width outside off, punched out to cover off the back foot for a couple

Joseph to Carse, no run, hung wide outside off stump, and Carse can't reach it... but the bowler gets away with it

Carse at No. 9.

Joseph to Overton, OUT, another belting catch from Roston Chase! Banged in halfway down, wide outside off stump. Overton looks to swipe leg-side, and gets a thick top edge... Chase, running back from mid-on, dives at full stretch and gobbles it up! An England batter falls short of 30, for the first time today

J Overton c Chase b Joseph 1 (5m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

Joseph to Overton, no run, width outside off, Overton can't connect on the cut

This could become the highest ODI innings without an individual hundred... South Africa's 392 vs Pakistan in Feb 2007 is the clubhouse leader, but Bethell may yet have other ideas.
