An update on Ash Gardner. She has gone for scans on her right hand to assess the extent of her injury, after being hit by a Sophie Devine rocket during NZ's batting innings. And the latest is that she will not bat, having hurt her right index finger.

4:07pm A strange, little innings. NZ got off to a good start very early in the powerplay but were soon pegged back. Kerr and Devine then struggled through the middle overs and for a while, it seemed that the White Ferns would end up with a below-par total. But then, right at the end, both of them found their range and that has enabled them to get close to 140, which could be competitive on a track that looks a little tricky.

Australia were decent in patches, but generally seemed a touch rusty and inconsistent. They were not helped by Gardner's injury in the 17th over, which probably meddled with their death-bowling plans. Brown was perhaps the pick of the bunch, alongside Sutherland, although the latter went for a few in her final over. Australia will not be daunted by this chase, but they will have to bat well to get there. Join us in a bit for the second innings!

Amelia Kerr: It was tough for Soph and me, they bowled well. Outfield is not very quick. They bowled good cutters and with that extra bounce, it was tough to get on top and utilize the straight boundaries. We spoke about getting to 140, that could give us a chance and be competitive. Different conditions, still a nice wicket. It seamed around and if you bowl well, we are right in the game. Their seamers kept the stumps in play and bowled their cutters. Seam-up, it might move around early. For spinners, just mixing up your variations and keeping the stumps in play.
