College baseball Week 9: Top 25 rankings and what to watch

play
Who should be ranked No. 1 in baseball? (1:34)

SEC baseball analyst David Dellucci explains why Texas should be ranked No. 1 in the nation even after dropping a 15-inning decision to Kentucky in its latest SEC series. (1:34)

A new No. 1? Again?!

Yep, that's right. The Texas Longhorns have taken over the top spot this week in college baseball after taking two games on the road against Kentucky. Arkansas, which held the top spot last week, lost its series to Georgia in Athens and is now sitting at No. 2. Texas faces top-10 ranked Auburn this weekend, so if the Longhorns can show up strong in that series, there's no reason why they would slide down. But Auburn has shown it has no problem taking down a top team.

Auburn swept its series against LSU, and as a result, LSU dropped six spots to No. 9. Another big dropper was Ole Miss, which lost a couple tough games to Tennessee. Two of the biggest risers this week come from the ACC in North Carolina and Georgia Tech as they both swept their weekend series.

Kansas fell out of the rankings this week after getting swept by TCU in Forth Worth, and now the Horned Frogs find themselves ranked at No. 25 for those efforts. West Virginia is the only other newcomer this week, supplanting Virginia Tech.

Here's how the top 25 rankings look as of April 14.

Play of the week

What makes a wild diving catch even better? Doing it against your rival. Check out this ridiculous play from Utah's Kaden Carpenter against BYU. Utah eventually lost this game 9-8, but the Utes went on to win the series in Salt Lake City.

Player to watch

INF/OF, Robbie Burnett, Georgia

Let's check in with one of the country's leading home-run hitters in Burnett. Now, it's obviously hard to follow a season like the one Charlie Condon had last year for the Bulldogs (he set the NCAA record with 37 homers in a season), but Burnett is having a great year so far. He is second in the nation with 16 home runs (one behind frontrunner Grant Gallagher of ETSU), and most importantly, he has the Dawgs ranked No. 5 overall. With 53 RBIs to his name in 2025, we're excited to see what he does in this final month of the season before the start of the SEC tournament.

Game to watch

No. 6 Oregon State at No. 10 UCLA (9 p.m. ET on Tuesday)

Let's go out west for what's sure to be an awesome outing between the Oregon State Beavers and the UCLA Bruins. These two squads are obviously familiar with each other, having faced off plenty of times in the Pac-12, but with the Bruins in the Big Ten and Oregon State an independent this year, we will only get this one high-power game. This past weekend, Oregon State looked solid against Cal State Fullerton, sweeping the Titans on the road and putting up a total of 33 runs over the three games. UCLA on the other hand was a little rattled by Washington when it dropped its first game of the series, but it eventually rallied to take the following two contests. The Bruins will have to slow down AJ Singer, who is on a nine-game hit streak, and Aiva Arquette, who is on a seven-game hit streak, if they want the win at home.
