The past weekend was the last before the dead period in football recruiting, and a lot of teams made the most of it. A last-minute recommitment from the nation's top offensive guard takes the No. 1 spot of this week's top 5 recruiting stories, but he wasn't the only one making up his mind.
Top 5 recruiting stories
1. Michigan gets recommitment from No. 1 guard

Michigan added two needed pieces to its 2013 class with Detroit Cass Tech teammates David Dawson and defensive back Delano Hill. Dawson, the No. 1-ranked guard in the ESPN 150, recommitted to Michigan while on his official visit.
The addition of the two prospects gives the Wolverines five committed prospects on the offensive line and five defensive back commitments as well. Depth is limited for both positions, so it's no surprise that the coaching staff made those groups an emphasis.

2. Oklahoma finally hosts No. 1 WR Treadwell

It took more than eight months after he was initially supposed to visit campus, but it was worth the wait for Oklahoma and ESPN's No. 1-ranked wide receiver, Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee).
Treadwell, who is listed as the No. 20 recruit in the ESPN 150, was the top-ranked visitor at OU for the Sooners' banquet weekend.
And with a number of OU commits in the house, it made for a great weekend even if it didn't end with a Sooners commitment for Treadwell.
"He seemed like he was having a lot of fun," said OU linebacker commit Jordan Evans (Norman, Okla./North). "He was interacting with everybody. He was smiling a lot. Obviously I can't get inside his head and tell, but he looked like he was comfortable and enjoying himself."

3. Florida adds Auburn decommit

Florida didn't bring many visitors this weekend -- only four prospects made official visits -- but it was once again a very productive recruiting weekend for the Gators.
Three-star linebacker Jarrad Davis (Kingsland, Ga./Camden County), who was one of Florida's official visitors, switched his commitment from Auburn to Florida on Saturday.
Camden County head coach Jeff Herron said Davis wasn't even sure if Florida would offer.
"Coach [Will] Muschamp called me last night and told me that they had offered him," Herron said. "It had been up in the air whether they were going to or not. They had another kid that they had offered and had committed that they were waiting on some grades with or something. So they thought they were going to offer, but it didn't officially happen until last night.
"Coach Muschamp told him they were going to offer him last night and to enjoy his weekend and think about it. Jarrad told me today that he told Coach Muschamp that yes, he would be going there."

4. Cal picks up pair of commitments

California continued to roll in its recruiting efforts despite making a change in head coaches.
Head coach Sonny Dykes had several official visitors on campus and earned a commitment from four-star offensive tackle Erik Bunte (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo). Cal also picked up a commitment from ESPN 300 wide receiver Dannon Cavil (San Antonio/James Madison) and the Golden Bears' recruiting hasn't missed a beat.

5. Aggies have huge week in recruiting

Texas A&M hosted six official visitors during the weekend, all of them commitments: Jay Arnold, Reggie Chevis, J.J. Gustafson, Jordan Points, Alex Sezer and Brett Wade.
But the biggest storyline of the weekend didn't come from the 2013 class, but 2014 instead.
The Aggies landed their sixth commitment of the 2014 class, Lufkin (Texas) High School receiver Jamal Jeffery, on Friday. The 5-foot-8, 165-pound receiver was the Aggies' third commitment and second 2014 commit of the week, joining ESPN Watch List linebacker Hoza Scott, who committed to the Aggies on Wednesday.
