Too-Early Top 25 recruiting primer

It's time to take another look at the teams we're expecting to compete for the national championship in 2015.

So, with signing day mere weeks away, here's how the teams in the Way-Too-Early Top 25 are looking on the recruiting trail:

1. TCU Horned Frogs
Who they have: TCU's class continues to climb up the charts and now stands firmly within the top 40 of the RecruitingNation class rankings. But keep in mind, Gary Patterson has never been big on chasing stars. His style of recruiting is taking the best available athlete from the Lone Star State or surrounding areas and then developing him into a great player. But the class speaks volumes about the type of athlete Patterson is now able to get with the recent run the Horned Frogs have been on. With TCU's offense grabbing a lot of headlines this season, it's no surprise to see offensive talent highlight the 2015 class. Receivers J.F. Thomas and Jaelan Austin are big gets from the Metroplex, and some insiders believe three-star receiver Tony James and Darrion Flowers could surprise also. Defensive backs Montrel Wilson and DeShawn Raymond are good defenders who fit TCU's aggressive style of play on that side of the ball.

Who they want: Adding quality along the defensive line appears to be priority No. 1 for the Horned Frogs in the final run-up to signing day. That's where defensive tackles Daylon Mack and Bryce English come into play. Mack, a five-star prospect, originally committed to Texas A&M but backed away from that pledge and recently called the Horned Frogs his leader. He still has a long list of January visits ahead and it would be a major recruiting victory to get him to come to Fort Worth. English was previously committed to UCLA, but he's from DeSoto High School, a nearby program that has been very kind to TCU over the years.

Storyline to watch: Can the Frogs land Mack? That is really the biggest storyline left for the 2015 class, with 20-plus commitments already on the board. If Patterson & Co. can get him, it would be their biggest recruiting victory since he's arrived as the coach at TCU. Mack is an impact defender who was impossible to block at the Under Armour All-America Game. If TCU gets Mack, it would also signal to other elite prospects that Fort Worth is the place to be. -- Jeremy Crabtree

2. Ohio State Buckeyes

Who they have: The Buckeyes currently have the No. 5-ranked recruiting class and are still hoping to add more pieces to this already outstanding group. The class is led by No. 1-ranked outside linebacker Justin Hilliard out of Cincinnati. Hilliard is one of three five-star commits in this class along with athlete Torrance Gibson and defensive lineman Jashon Cornell. The coaching staff was able to flip linebacker Jerome Baker, who had been committed to Florida, to complete an excellent linebacker haul with Hilliard and inside linebacker Nick Conner. Ohio State was also able to flip running back Mike Weber, who decommitted from Michigan and chose the Buckeyes. The Detroit native was a big pickup as he is the third commitment from Cass Tech High School in the past two classes for Ohio State. With 24 overall commitments, the Buckeyes have 12 ranked as four-stars and eight commitments ranked as three-stars.

Who they want: Despite having an almost full class, Ohio State still has some big names that could join the fold. There are none bigger than the No. 1-ranked prospect in the country, defensive lineman Terry Beckner Jr. The Illinois native is still planning an Ohio State visit but it seems as though the Buckeyes are behind for Beckner. Austrian Robinson, another defensive lineman, is also planning a visit to see Ohio State and the Buckeyes are also still hoping to land Isaiah Prince, Porter Gustin and a few others.

Storyline to watch: Torrance Gibson is Ohio State's second-highest ranked commitment and he is also very highly sought after. Gibson has been very confident in his decision to stick with the Buckeyes, but as we get closer to signing day there will be more competition to sign him. Something Ohio State fans will need to watch is whether Gibson sticks with the Buckeyes are looks elsewhere in the last few weeks. This class is stocked from top to bottom and is one of the higher-ranked classes coach Urban Meyer has had at Ohio State. Because of that fact, there isn't much to worry about outside of landing a few more pieces. -- Tom VanHaaren

3. Baylor Bears
Who they have: As Baylor has improved on the field, so have the Bears on the recruiting trail. Baylor sits solidly inside the top 25 of the RecruitingNation class rankings with a class that still has plenty of room to grow. The Bears have three ESPN 300 commitments, headlined by quarterback Jarrett Stidham, a former Texas Tech commitment. Landing Stidham was a significant recruiting win for Art Briles because he is very familiar with the Bears' offensive system since it's the same as what he runs at his high school. The Bears also scored big recruiting victories in ESPN 300 receiver Devontre Stricklin and ESPN 300 running back Ja'Mycal Hasty. Both should continue Baylor's run of talented skill players.

Who they want: The Bears need to finish strong on the defensive side of the ball to call the 2015 class fully complete at filling needs. That's where defensive backs Holton Hill and Kris Boyd come into play. Both are talented and considered shutdown corners and exactly what the Bears need to take that next step as a program. The problem is that the competition is stiff for both. Boyd likes the Bears, along with TCU, Texas and Texas A&M. Hill is looking at Alabama, Baylor, Florida State, LSU and Texas.

Storyline to watch: For all the success on the offensive side of the ball, Baylor will be judged on how it finishes with its defensive recruits. Guys like Hill and Boyd are critical, especially after Oklahoma was able to steal local talent Kahlil Haughton away from the Bears. If they whiff on Hill and Boyd, where will Baylor turn? -- Jeremy Crabtree

4. USC Trojans
Who they have: Eleven of USC's 21 commitments are ESPN 300 prospects and two more are ESPN JC 50 recruits. The Trojans have done a great job in California, with commitments from eight of the state's 32 ESPN 300 prospects -- no other program has more than three. Quarterbacks Sam Darnold and Ricky Town lead the way, while tight end Tyler Petite fills a huge need and the defensive backfield will get a boost with safety Marvell Tell and athletes Isaiah Langley and Ykili Ross. The defensive front seven adds ESPN 300 prospects Jacob Daniel and Cameron Smith as well as defensive tackle Noah Jefferson and end Christian Rector. But the Trojans are also succeeding out of state, as the top two prospects in the class are Georgia offensive tackle Chuma Edoga and Texas running back Ronald Jones II, who joins fellow Texas running back Aca'Cedric Ware in this class.

Who they want: Like Oregon, the Trojans will focus on defensive prospects over the next several weeks. Iman Marshall, Rasheem Green and John Houston Jr. are likely the top three prospects on the board, while Utah prospects Osa Masina and Porter Gustin are wants as well. Tight end T.J. Wheatley Jr. is being recruited to possibly play a number of positions for the Trojans, including tight end, defensive end or even offensive tackle.

Storyline to watch: Can USC again close with the big three? Last February, the Los Angeles-area trio of Adoree' Jackson, Juju Smith and Damien Mama represented the top three uncommitted California prospects heading into signing day and the Trojans scored the hat trick. This year, Marshall, Green and Houston represent three of the top four uncommitted California prospects at this point and USC head coach Steve Sarkisian would be able to make a resounding statement to future recruits in the Southern California area if he is able to go three-for-three for a second straight year. -- Erik McKinney

5. Oregon Ducks
Who they have: The Ducks have six ESPN 300 prospects at six different positions, including dual-threat quarterback Travis Waller, running back Taj Griffin and wide receiver Alex Ofodile. But the biggest commitment came from defensive end Canton Kaumatule, the No. 44 overall prospect and a player capable of contributing along the defensive line as a true freshman. The Ducks will also get a significant influx of talent for the offensive line, as ESPN 300 guard Zach Okun is joined by four offensive tackles -- Jake Hanson, Shane Lemieux, Brady Aiello and Calvin Throckmorton. ESPN 300 athlete Malik Lovette would appear to fit perfectly into the Oregon offense as a prospect who could line up all over the field for a potent offense.

Who they want: Oregon will look to load up on the defensive side of the ball between now and signing day. Defensive tackle Rasheem Green and linebacker John Houston Jr. -- teammates and ESPN 300 prospects -- are right at the top of the board and both have taken official visits to Oregon and have the Ducks among their final choices. ESPN 300 cornerback Iman Marshall, the No. 7 prospect nationally, has picked up interest in Oregon and said he could visit the Ducks in the coming weeks. Oregon also could jump into the mix for the nation's No. 1 prospect, defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr., who has discussed a possible trip to Oregon.

Storyline to watch: It's already guaranteed that the Ducks will finish with a very strong class, especially considering Kaumatule, Waller, Okun and Griffin are enrolling early, but no commitment would mean more than if Oregon is able to bring Marshall into the fold. The standout cornerback hadn't mentioned the Ducks much during his recruiting process, but if Oregon is able to earn a commitment from Marshall, it might make more of a statement than when the Ducks were able to pry another Los Angeles prep icon -- De'Anthony Thomas in the 2011 class -- away from his commitment to USC. -- Erik McKinney

6. Michigan State Spartans
Who they have: The Spartans have three ESPN 300 commits in the 2015 class, equaling the number in the previous class as well. Michigan State loses an excellent running back in Jeremy Langford, but L.J. Scott, the No. 11 running back in the 2015 class, could be someone who comes in and provides an immediate impact. Scott is a four-star back who chose the Spartans in July. He is joined by fellow ESPN 300 commits Kyonta Stallworth and quarterback Brian Lewerke. Quarterback isn't an immediate need for the Spartans, but Lewerke could be a guy who earns playing time early in his career once he settles in. The Class of '15 has 12 commitments ranked as three-stars and in typical Michigan State fashion, a few names that could be underrated gets. Offensive lineman Tyler Higby and defensive lineman Raequan Williams along with linebacker Tyriq Thompson are a few who come to mind.

Who they want: Michigan State still has some room for a few prospects in this class and the staff would like to add some big names to close out 2015. In-state athlete John Kelly is one of those prospects and is planning a visit to East Lansing along with Minnesota, Tennessee and likely Michigan. Outside of Kelly, the Spartans are still in it for linebackers Anthony McKee and Quart'e Sapp as well as a few other prospects.

Storyline to watch: Michigan State has filled a lot of its needs already, so there aren't too many concerns leading up to signing day. With Michigan hiring Jim Harbaugh, the Wolverines are looking to snag Kelly away and to establish dominance within the state once again. The Spartans' record over the past few years and the coaches' ability to identify to talent should make it less concerning for Michigan State fans, but it is a concern nonetheless. -- Tom VanHaaren

7. UCLA Bruins
Who they have: It starts at the top for UCLA, as ESPN 300 quarterback Josh Rosen is arguably the most important commit for any Pac-12 program in the 2015 class. He's already on campus at UCLA and looking to use this spring to earn the starting quarterback job. He'll be joined on the offensive side by Alize Jones, the nation's No. 1 tight end, as well as ESPN 300 offensive linemen Andre James and Fred Ulu-Perry Jr., and ESPN JC 50 offensive tackle Zach Batemen, another early enrollee. On defense, No. 5 defensive end Keisean Lucier-South was a big recruiting win and likely early-impact prospect, while Stephen Johnson could play several different positions on either side of the ball and Will Lockett and Colin Samuel form a nice cornerback tandem. The linebacker group of Victor Alexander, Josh Woods and Cassius Peat is terrific.

Who they want: The Bruins are still in the mix for a number of top targets, both locally and nationally. Landing No. 7 overall prospect Iman Marshall would make a statement for head coach Jim Mora that not only is he winning the battle on the field against USC, he's getting it done on the recruiting trail as well. Marshall, ESPN 300 defensive tackle Joseph Wicker and athlete Nathan Meadors are some of the few local prospects still on the board for UCLA, while there are a number of national recruits still in play. Tight end Chris Clark and T.J. Wheatley Jr. will both visit the Bruins in January. ESPN 300 linebackers Osa Masina and Roquan Smith are targets, and the Bruins could be considered the favorites for offensive linemen Josh Wariboko and Semisi Uluave, as well as defensive tackle Benning Potoae. The Bruins will continue to hit Texas hard as well, as running back Soso Jamabo, wide receiver Ryan Newsome and offensive linemen and LSU commit Maea Teuhema are still on the board.

Storyline to watch: While UCLA inked a very good class in 2014, it's unlikely the Bruins' coaches want a repeat of what happened on signing day. With UCLA in on a number of out-of-state prospects, one after another committed to other schools, while USC made a huge splash, gaining commitments from the top three uncommitted prospects in Southern California on signing day. The Bruins did sign linebacker Kenny Young, but watched as Malachi Dupre, Mattrell McGraw, Solomon Thomas, Davon Godchaux and Rashaan Evans all signed elsewhere. This year, UCLA could have its revenge, or possibly suffer an extreme case of déjà vu. With USC in on three of the top four uncommitted prospects in the state, UCLA coaches are hoping things nationally go their way as signing day closes in. If the Bruins again hit on just one of their national targets on signing day, it will be another long day for the UCLA coaches. -- Erik McKinney

8. Georgia Bulldogs
Who they have: The Bulldogs are on the verge of inking a top-three class that currently features 15 ESPN 300 pledges. Finding defensive linemen and linebackers to fit the Bulldogs' 3-4 scheme was the main focus, and the Bulldogs have delivered. No. 4 overall Trenton Thompson, No. 62 Jonathan Ledbetter, No. 117 Natrez Patrick, No. 120 Chauncey Rivers, No. 241 D'Andre Walker and No. 263 Michael Barnett will all bring size, talent and versatility to the program. At defensive back, No. 78 Rashad Roundtree is a solid safety prospect, while ESPN 300 Darius Slayton could be a difference-maker at corner should he make the switch from receiver. Former Clemson defensive back commit Juwuan Briscoe (No. 290) is full of upside. Receiver has also been addressed with No. 38 Terry Godwin, No. 151 Jayson Stanley and No. 161 Van Jefferson, who is not a solid pledge to the Bulldogs. At tight end, No. 212 Jackson Harris will add inline ability with a coach's dream frame. If there is a sleeper in the class, it would be four-star South Georgia standout Gary McCrae, who could play linebacker or receiver at 6-foot-4 and 225-pounds.

Who they want: Georgia remains in the hunt for a number of top prospects, which includes No. 27 Roquan Smith, No. 33 Arden Key, No. 34 and Tennessee verbal Preston Williams, No. 172 Donte Jackson and four-star offensive tackle Chidi Valentine-Okeke.

Storyline to watch: With former offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and OL coach Will Friend having departed for Colorado State, the month of January is all about keeping commitments in the fold while working hard to close strong on the defensive side of the ball. Smith is a lean to the Bulldogs at linebacker, but multiple needs remain at defensive back. Mark Richt and receivers coach Tony Ball would like nothing better than to flip Williams from SEC East foe Tennessee. -- Gerry Hamilton

9. Clemson Tigers
Who they have: The Tigers are poised to sign a top-five class that addresses needs as well as any in 2015. Offensive line was need No. 1 in the class, and Clemson has three ESPN 300s and four four-stars in the fold. No. 16-overall Mitch Hyatt. Hyatt is joined by No. 7-ranked OT Jake Fruhmorgen and No. 13 OT Noah Green. Four-star Zach Giella is the most versatile with the ability to play center or either guard spot. Defensive line was nearly just as important, and Dabo Sweeney and staff knocked it out of the park with No. 81 overall Christian Wilkins, No. 109 Sterling Johnson, No. 124 Austin Bryant, No. 126 Clelin Ferrell, No. 168 Albert Huggins and No. 286 Gage Cervenka. Offensive skill will come from No. 32 Deon Cain, who will play wide receiver, and versatile ESPN 300 playmaker Ray-Ray McCloud III. Two signal-callers, led by four-star Kelly Bryant, will also help provide quality depth behind Deshaun Watson the next few seasons. At tight end, No. 113 Garrett Williams brings versatility and toughness to the position. Clemson's class features 13 ESPN 300 prospects all told, including January enrollees No. 168 Huggins and No. 287 Chad Smith.

Who they want: Clemson would like to add another difference-maker defensive back to an almost full class, and that list begins with No. 156 Mark Fields II, who will officially visit the Tigers Jan. 16 before making trips to Texas on Jan. 23, and LSU on Jan. 30. Miami commit Michael Jackson is also on the Tigers' board.

Storyline to watch: For Clemson, it's all about holding on to what it has with Florida expected to make a strong push with McCloud, and adding an impact defensive back. After the class reports in full, four-star defensive back Van Smith could well emerge as the sleeper of the class. -- Gerry Hamilton

10. Alabama Crimson Tide
Who they have: The No. 1-ranked wide receiver in the country, Calvin Ridley (No. 23 in the ESPN 300), leads an offensive group that includes five-star quarterback Blake Barnett, and several ESPN 300 prospects that include tight end Hale Hentges, guards Lester Cotton, Brandon Kennedy and Richie Petitbon, and center/guard Dallas Warmack. The first tackle in the class committed Dec. 14 when three-star Matt Womack flipped from LSU. Alabama also snagged running back DeSherrius Flowers. Rangy linebacker Adonis Thomas is a former Florida commit and is joined at linebacker by Mekhi Brown and Joshua McMillon. In the secondary, Deionte Thompson, Shawn Burgess-Becker and former Georgia commit Rico McGraw join the highest-ranked defender in the class, No. 4-ranked cornerback and No. 26 overall Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Who they want: With 24 commitments the Crimson Tide are just about full in their 2015 class. There are still a few five-star prospects in play such as defensive ends Byron Cowart and CeCe Jefferson. Alabama is also still working to flip Georgia athlete commit Terry Godwin and Auburn commit Kerryon Johnson. Both will take visits to Alabama in January.

Storyline to watch: Will Alabama finish with its fourth consecutive No. 1-ranked recruiting class? It certainly seems like it. After picking up commitments from ESPN 300 defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne and five-star cornerback Kendall Sheffield at the Under Armour All-America Game, the Crimson Tide appear poised to take home the recruiting title again. The Crimson Tide have 24 commitments including an astounding 19 ranked in the ESPN 300. Barring any last-minute decommitments, it appears that the Tide will once again take home the recruiting title. -- Derek Tyson

11. Ole Miss Rebels
Who they have: The No. 1 inside linebacker in the country, Leo Lewis, is committed to the Rebels but will be tough to hang on to. Lewis, Auburn flip Tony Bridges and Memphis-area product Drew Richmond are the headliners of this strong Ole Miss class. Richmond is joined on the offensive line by ESPN 300 OG Javon Patterson. Four-star OL Michael Howard is another quality get on the O-line but needs to add some weight to his 6-foot-6 frame, though he has all the tools to be successful. Another key get is ESPN 300 running back Eric Swinney out of Georgia, as is ESPN Junior College 50 QB Chad Kelly, who is likely to get a shot at the starting job this spring if he can avoid off-the-field trouble. Also coming from the junior college ranks is DT D.J. Jones, a former Florida State commit. Not to be outdone, four-star quarterback Jason Pellerin is full of upside, and Ole Miss has a future WR target committed in four-star Jay Johnson. Four-star athlete Willie Hibbler could end up on either side of the ball.

Who they want: The Rebels are working feverishly to get the No. 2-ranked safety in the country, Jamal Peters, to flip his commitment from Mississippi State to the Rebels. Four-star wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge said the Rebels were his leader at the Under Armour All-America Game. Five-star defensive end CeCe Jefferson has some serious interest in Ole Miss and has developed a strong relationship with defensive line coach Chris Kiffin. Four-star athlete Kirk Merritt is another top target for the Rebels.

Storyline to watch: Will the Rebels be able to hold on to Richmond and Lewis? Both prospects have visited other schools. Ole Miss just lost linebackers coach Tom Allen to USF, where he took the defensive coordinator job. Lewis was already wavering but it remains to be seen just how much of an impact Allen had on Lewis. Meanwhile, Richmond is from Memphis, and the in-state Volunteers have made a big push. Richmond has visited Knoxville several times, and this will be something to watch as signing day approaches. -- Derek Tyson

12. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Who they have: With 22 commitments in the 2015 class, Notre Dame is once again recruiting very well through signing day. There are 13 commitments ranked as four-stars in the class, with the highest ranked being quarterback Brandon Wimbush. The Irish were able to flip Wimbush from Penn State and he will add some much needed help at quarterback for the future. He wasn't the only prospect to switch from Penn State to Notre Dame as linebacker Josh Barajas made the same decision earlier in the season. Wimbush is one of six ESPN 300 commitments along with offensive linemen Tristan Hoge, Jerry Tillery and Trevor Ruhland, athlete Shaun Crawford and wide receiver Jalen Guyton. There is a good mix of offensive and defensive weapons in this class with 6-foot-4, 212-pound receiver Miles Boykin and linebacker Te'Von Coney as two names that stick out.

Who they want: Despite their already outstanding class, there are some huge name prospects still on the board for the Irish. ESPN 300 running back Soso Jamabo is a big priority since Ronald Jones chose USC over Notre Dame. Tight end Alize Jones, receiver Equanimeous St. Brown and defensive back Iman Marshall are all also considering the Irish among others.

Storyline to watch: How Notre Dame closes with some of the elite prospects on the board. The Irish are in an interesting situation with a disappointing season and quite a few holes to fill on the roster. If Notre Dame can land some immediate-impact prospects it could be a huge benefit for the next few years on the field. -- Tom VanHaaren

13. Arizona Wildcats

Who they have: The Wildcats hit it big with their top two commitments in ESPN 300 offensive tackle Keenan Walker and ESPN JC 50 defensive tackle Anthony Fotu. Arizona will also add four-star tackle Cody Creason, three-star tackle Harper Sherman and three-star guards Alex Kosinski and Nathan Eldridge to the offensive line. There are a number of skill players on both sides of the ball, with running backs Orlando Bradford and Darick Holmes Jr., cornerbacks Shun Brown, Anthony Mariscal, Samuel Morrison and Dane Cruikshank, wide receiver Cedric Peterson, and athletes Antonio Parks and Brion Anduze.

Who they want: There aren't many spots left in this class for the Wildcats, but there are a few important names left on the board. ESPN 300 wide receiver Cordell Broadus continues to mention Arizona -- along with several other Pac-12 programs -- as a possible destination. Arizona will also look to continue its run of success in Louisiana, as teammates Arthur McGinnis and Darrell Clark are two of the top prospects left for the Wildcats, as well as teammates of Arizona commit Kendal Franklin.

Storyline to watch: Despite starting redshirt freshman Anu Solomon, adding two transfers in Jerrard Randall and Connor Brewer the past two years and signing Brandon Dawkins in the 2014 class, it wouldn't be much like Rich Rodriguez to stand pat when it comes to adding quarterbacks to the roster. But with less than a month until signing day, the Wildcats are still without a quarterback for the 2015 class and don't appear to be significantly in the mix for any uncommitted high school prospects. While there's no guarantee the Arizona coaches will bring in a quarterback in this class, it wouldn't be a shock to see the Wildcats try to get in late on a signal-caller or even look to bring in a transfer who could play immediately. -- Erik McKinney

14. Auburn Tigers
Who they have: Auburn has always done a good job recruiting on the junior college level, and there's no bigger get in the class than Jovon Robinson of Georgia Military College. Robinson, a 6-0, 220-pound running back, is the top juco player in the country and his style of play fits Gus Malzahn's system really well. He's a workhorse with breakaway speed. On the defensive side of the ball, Jordan Colbert and Darrell Williams could join McBryde as linebackers who could see the field early on. Four-star athlete Kerryon Johnson could provide help on both sides of the ball with his versatility. Offensive linemen Bailey Sharp and Kaleb Kim are ESPN 300 prospects who will provide immediate depth at tackle and guard.

Who they want: Five-star defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. will take an official visit to Auburn in January and five-star Byron Cowart is also planning to visit the Tigers before signing day. Outside linebacker Jeffery Holland has a great relationship with new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp so that should only help Auburn's cause. Another defensive end, Arden Key, will take his last official visit to Auburn on Jan. 30.

Storyline to watch: How much of an impact will Muschamp have on Auburn's 2015 class? The Muschamp hire has already improved Auburn's chances of landing Holland and Cowart. Muschamp and new defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson will definitely have a big impact on recruiting the state of Florida in the future, but it will be interesting to see just how much of an impact is made on this year's recruiting class. -- Derek Tyson

15. Arizona State Sun Devils
Who they have: It isn't the star-studded class of 2014 (yet), but head coach Todd Graham looks as though he'll bring another terrific haul of recruits to Tempe. Grabbing No. 8 pocket passer Brady White over offers from Arizona, Cal, Oregon and others was a big recruiting win, as was flipping No. 1 junior college outside linebacker Davon Durant from South Carolina and holding on to him over a strong push from Oregon. Arizona State also has commitments from ESPN 300 cornerback Stanley Norman and ESPN 300 offensive guard Zach Robertson -- both from Southern California -- the four-star in-state tandem of quarterback Bryce Perkins and running back Paul Lucas, and four-star Texas standout Morie Evans.

Who they want: Arizona State is in the mix with several other Pac-12 programs for ESPN 300 stars linebacker John Houston Jr., defensive tackle Rasheem Green, linebacker Osa Masina, wide receiver Trent Irwin, wide receiver Cordell Broadus and athlete Porter Gustin. The Sun Devils are also pushing for wide receivers Daylon Charlot and Jaylinn Hawkins, running back Tyreik Gray and defensive tackle Bryce English, among others.

Storyline to watch: Early in the process the Sun Devils were thought to be extreme long shots for a number of the top prospects they are still involved with, especially the Southern California group of Houston, Green and Irwin. If Graham can land any of those prospects on signing day, it will be a strong indication that impact recruits are buying into the program he's running in Tempe. The Sun Devils were able to win some recruiting battles last year on their way to a No. 21 class nationally, but grabbing these three prospects would represent signature wins over recruiting power programs Oregon, Stanford and USC. -- Erik McKinney

16. Wisconsin Badgers
Who they have: The Badgers currently have 24 commitments in the class, three of which are ranked as four-stars. Wisconsin's class is led by Texas running back Jordan Stevenson, who committed to the Badgers without a head coach. Stevenson made his decision after Gary Andersen left for Oregon State and before Paul Chryst was officially hired. Offense is at the top of the list for this class with four-star quarterback Austin Kafentzis and tight end Kyle Penniston. The Badgers also have the protypical Wisconsin lineman with 6-foot-7, 340-pound Sam Madden, Jon Dietzen, David Moorman and Kevin Estes. The average weight for the four linemen is 298 pounds, so the future of the offensive line still looks bright in Madison.

Who they want: The coaching staff would still like to add a few pieces to this class and that includes linebacker Christian Folau. It looked as though the Badgers had a good shot with Folau, but an Oregon offer has delayed his decision and made him think a little more about the process. Linebacker Anthony McKee is still a possibility as McKee is planning an official visit before signing day.

Storyline to watch: What can the new staff do to close out the 2015 class? It's been an odd month in Madison with Andersen leaving, Chryst coming in and the Badgers winning their bowl game against Auburn. Wisconsin is sitting with a top-30 recruiting class and Chryst can get his tenure started right with a strong closing. -- Tom VanHaaren

17. LSU Tigers
Who they have: Headlining the commitments is Kevin Toliver II. He is joined at cornerback by fellow ESPN 300 member Xavier Lewis, who committed at The Opening. Also in the fold is the No. 2-ranked wide receiver in the country, Tyron Johnson, who gave his pledge to the Tigers at the Under Armour All-America Game, and four-star offensive guard Maea Teuhema. Running back is a prime focus in the class, and the Tigers have scored in a big way with No. 108 Nick Brossette, No. 118 Derrius Guice and four-star recruit David Ducre. Three-star recruit Justin McMillan, out of Texas powerhouse Cedar Hill, is the quarterback in the class.

Who they want: Inside linebacker Leo Lewis, who is an Ole Miss commit, and Arden Key, who just recently decommitted from South Carolina, are two of the top remaining prospects on LSU's recruiting board. Wide receiver Daylon Charlot is another huge target as signing day approaches.

Storyline to watch: How will the loss of John Chavis affect LSU's recruiting? Five-star defensive tackle Daylon Mack already canceled an LSU visit after hearing of Chavis' departure. With Lewis and Key still huge priorities LSU will be playing catch-up with a new defensive coordinator, but Les Miles has a history of closing strong. -- Derek Tyson

18. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Who they have: The Yellow Jackets will rarely sign a recruiting class that receives attention on national signing day, but Paul Johnson and his staff recruit to scheme and needs as well as anyone. The headliner in 2015 is four-star receiver Christian Philpott, who has instant-impact ability. The future of the running back position has been addressed with power back Mikell Lands-Davis and darting playmaker KirVonte' Benson. Offensive line was another position of need, and the Yellow Jackets are set to bring in interior talent in Will Bryan along with versatility in Brad Morgan and two-way prospect Scotty Morgan. Defensive linemen in the fold are three-stars Kyle Henderson, Brentavious Glanton and Trent Sellers, with Henderson likely to be a contributor from day one.

Who they want: Defensive end Anree Saint-Amour, running backs Shi'Kim Coward and Marcus Marshall, and defensive back Juantez McRae are among the top prospects remaining in play. Should Georgia Tech win out on Saint-Amour over Iowa and Minnesota, it would be a huge victory on the top in-state target remaining.

Storyline to watch: Georgia Tech wants to keep adding pieces to the future puzzle, and that starts with running back on offense and defensive end and defensive back on defense. Forced to recruit nationally, the Yellow Jackets currently have five states represented on their commitment list. The state of Florida has been very good to them in 2015 with four of the 22 verbals and more likely to be added. -- Gerry Hamilton

19. Florida State Seminoles
Who they have: The Seminoles' top-three ranked class has addressed many needs. The class features 11 ESPN 300 prospects, including five-star defensive end Josh Sweat and vertical threat receiver George Campbell, who are both enrolling in January. Also enrolling in Tallahassee for the spring semester are instant-impact safety Derwin James (No. 19), running back Jacques Patrick (No. 42), wide receiver Da'Vante Phillips (No. 58) and quarterback De'Andre Johnson (No. 293). Corner is a huge position of need in the class, and No. 49 Tarvarus McFadden could hit the field from day one. Offensive tackle and No. 68 Abdul Bello is one to watch a year from now. The state of Virginia has been good to the Seminoles in recent classes with Sweat and No. 159 Darvin Taylor II in 2015. Under the radar, but not to be forgotten in the class are three-stars Nyqwan Murray and Sh'mar Kilby-Lane along with a pair of offensive guard prospects in Cole Minshew and David Robbins.

Who they want: No. 1 Terry Beckner Jr., No. 2 Byron Cowart, No. 7 Iman Marshall (Jan. 16 official visit to Florida State), No. 9 CeCe Jefferson, No. 277 Kris Boyd, No. 298 Jalen Merrick and a couple of others. Cowart will be in Tallahassee Jan. 30 following trips to Auburn Jan. 16 and Florida Jan. 23.

Storyline to watch: The Seminoles are tight on numbers, but could still potentially challenge Alabama for the No. 1 class if they reeled in Becker Jr. and Cowart. It's not all rosy for Florida State however; quarterback Deondre Francois and running back Johnny Frasier are still looking at other programs, with Frasier the most likely to flip leading up to national signing day. Adding another topflight cornerback is imperative down the stretch, and No. 7 Marshall and No. 277 Boyd are on top of the board. -- Gerry Hamilton

20. Boise State Broncos
Who they have: Four-star quarterback Brett Rypien was a big addition for the Broncos, as they beat out Washington State, where Rypien's uncle was a standout quarterback. Junior college safety Kameron Miles -- a former ESPN 300 prospect who was dismissed from Texas A&M -- enrolled early at Boise State and the Broncos' coaches were also able to flip former Oregon State tight end commit Matt Pistone after the Beavers' coaching change. Athlete Ladarryl Blair, wide receiver Akilian Butler and running back Raymond Sheard are three standout Texas preps on their way to Boise. Athlete Damion Wright could play a number of positions on either side of the ball and linebacker Drew Berger is a terrific in-state pickup.

Who they want: Athlete Nathan Meadors would be a big addition, though Boise State will need to fight off a number of Pac-12 programs for him. Former Utah commitment wide receiver Donzale Roddie is another prospect being targeted by the Broncos' coaches, as are offensive tackle Keven Dixon, linebackers Riley Whimpey, Shannon Walsh and Terrance Jackson, cornerbacks Cameron Haney and Tyler Horton, and running back Sheldon Croney.

Storyline to watch: The storyline with Boise State this year is the same as it always is. Watch as the Broncos' coaches reel in three-star prospects and turn them into a team that can take down Power 5 programs with regularity. Though, the coaches will have some significant recruiting help between now and signing day, as Rypien -- one of the best recruiters in this class -- will be on campus as an early enrollee for the final weeks before Feb. 4. -- Erik McKinney

21. Arkansas Razorbacks
Who they have: Bret Bielema has worked hard to upgrade the defensive talent in Fayetteville since he arrived, and ESPN 300 defensive tackle Hjalte Froholdt is the biggest defensive recruit he has landed since he was hired. Joining Froholdt is ESPN 300 receiver K.J. Hill and ESPN 300 tight ends C.J. O'Grady and Will Gragg. All three have unique skill sets that give Arkansas weapons that have been missing in its offense. Landing ESPN Junior College Top 50 defensive tackle Jeremiah Ledbetter was also a massive get in the 2015 class. Ledbetter and Froholdt will give the Hogs a major upgrade up front on defense.

Who they want: ESPN 300 offensive tackle Jalen Merrick is down to FSU, Florida and Arkansas and is a top target for the Razorbacks. Soso Jamabo is one of the top running backs in the country and a key target for the Razorbacks, but Arkansas will have its work cut out in landing the talented back.

Storyline to watch: Arkansas is still looking to improve its linebackers, especially after the departures of Braylon Mitchell and Martrell Spaight, but it won't be easy with linebackers coach Randy Shannon leaving to take a job at Florida. That's why a guy such as Rayshad Jackson has now become a top priority. The Hogs are also looking to add more defensive line help, and former Vanderbilt commit T.J. Smith has emerged as a hot target. -- Derek Tyson

22. Utah Utes
Who they have: The Utes have three big-time junior college commitments in athlete Corey Butler and wide receivers Kyle Fulks and Brandon Snell, all of whom are capable of providing an impact next season. Dual-threat quarterback Chad Hekking and athlete Tuli Wily-Matagi, who played quarterback in high school, are intriguing prospects who could get looks at a number of positions on both sides of the ball. Offensive skill is plentiful, with running backs Marcel Brown and Taylor Thomas, wide receivers Caleb Repp and George Wilson, and athlete Chris Barr, in addition to the three jucos.

Who they want: Wide receiver Donzale Roddie is a former Utah commit who is still looking at the Utes, while linebacker Christian Folau and defensive end Mufi Hunt are in-state targets. Utah coaches have also looked to make their presence felt in Florida recently. They have three commits in this class from the state and two more -- safety Tyson Cisrow and defensive end Chris Hart -- on the target list.

Storyline to watch: Utah signed just three of its six defensive line commitments in the 2014 class and doesn't have any commitments from defensive linemen in the 2015 class. In fact, the Utes have commitments from just two offensive linemen -- tackles Jake Grant and Nick Carman. There might not be a huge need for immediate-impact freshmen along the lines, but bringing in two linemen in any recruiting class isn't the best way to stay competitive in the Pac-12. Expect head coach Kyle Whittingham to make a hard push for big men over the coming weeks. -- Erik McKinney

23. Tennessee Volunteers
Who they have: Tennessee is on pace for another top-10 recruiting class. The Volunteers' class is headlined by one of the top wide receivers in the country, Preston Williams, as well as big-time defensive tackles Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle. The addition of ESPN 300 defensive end Andrew Butcher gives the Vols an excellent defensive line class. Offensive linemen Jack Jones, Venzell Boulware and four-star Chance Hall bring much-needed help across the front, and No. 184 Jauan Jennings is an impressive athlete. Four-star quarterback Quinten Dormady was a key commitment June 9. Former Alabama running back Alvin Kamara is already on campus and should see the field early on next season. The Vols also added three-star RB Kendall Bussey. Defensive back Micah Abernathy brings versatility to the defensive backfield with a college-ready body. On Dec. 16, the Vols reeled in No. 271 Darrin Kirkland Jr., filling a need at linebacker.

Who they want: With 27 commitments, the Vols have pretty much wrapped up their class. They will still target ESPN 300 offensive tackle Drew Richmond and FSU running back commit Johnny Frasier.

Storyline to watch: With so many commitments already on board, there won't be a lot of storylines to watch come signing day. Williams, a Georgia native, did take a visit to UGA recently and the home-state team will always be something to watch as signing day gets closer. Williams, however, sounds as if he is solid to Tennessee. -- Derek Tyson

24. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Who they have: Most of the attention in the Big 12 has been on the classes Texas and Oklahoma have assembled, so it's possible that you overlooked the good group heading to Stillwater. While it's not as highly ranked as what we've seen under Mike Gundy in the past, there is still a lot of quality in the 2015 crop. Quarterback John Kolar was a huge in-state get, and the ESPN 300 quarterback could see the field early on because of lack of depth at the position. The Cowboys have also dipped into Louisiana to land ESPN 300 safety Kevin Henry out of Baton Rouge. If he's able to qualify, he is an immediate-impact type of player. Four-star offensive tackle Johnny Wilson and three-star guard Vaimoe Sekona are two good players who add much-needed depth along the offensive line, and junior college defensive tackle Motekiai Maile is one of the top 10 tackle prospects in the two-year college ranks.

Who they want: The Jan. 16 official visit weekend is big for the Cowboys. OSU is looking to reel in talented ESPN 300 running back Chris Warren III out of Texas. The Cowboys are battling Texas Tech and Washington to get his commitment and it would be a nice get considering OSU did lose a commitment from another top Texas back, Ronald Jones II, earlier this season. ESPN 300 offensive tackle Jalen Barnett is also a big in-state target left on the board. The Cowboys are battling Nebraska and Arkansas for his commitment.

Storyline to watch: The Cowboys are always judged on how they do in the state, and Barnett remains the biggest local target. If they're able to land him to join No. 2-ranked Kolar, it would give the Cowboys pledges from the top two players in Oklahoma. That would certainly send signals to 2016 targets that things in Stillwater are on the upswing. -- Jeremy Crabtree

25. Minnesota Golden Gophers
Who they have: The Gophers have 18 total commitments in this class, and it's heavy on defensive backs and offensive linemen. Minnesota landed a key commitment from junior college safety Charlie Rogers, who should be able to provide immediate help. Minnesota loses a few defensive backs to graduation, so landing someone such as Rogers was important. Rogers is joined in the class by fellow defensive backs Alonzo Craighton, Jacob Huff, Ray Buford and Antonio Shenault. The offensive line is well represented in this class with four commitments averaging 310 pounds. Quinn Oseland checks in at 6-foot-6, 310 pounds, while Tyler Moore stands at 6-foot-5, 336 pounds.

Who they want: Despite having so many defensive backs committed, the Gophers are still hoping to land Michigan prospect John Kelly, who could play corner or running back. The Gophers also offered another Michigan defensive back in Dior Johnson, who is committed to Wake Forest. Minnesota is also hoping to land linebacker Anthony McKee among a few other prospects to round out the class.

Storyline to watch: The Gophers had a successful season in 2014 and are hoping to build off of that success for the next season. This class could be a big part of the future, especially with a player like Rogers who could contribute early at safety. If Minnesota can land a few more big targets as signing day approaches, it could help secure more winning seasons in the next few years. Landing the right type of player is important to the Minnesota staff and a few of those guys are still out there to reel in. -- Gerry Hamilton
