Source: Wisconsin hires Kansas assistant Jeff Grimes as OC

Wisconsin and Jeff Grimes have reached an agreement to hire the Kansas assistant as the Badgers' offensive coordinator, a source told ESPN.

Grimes spent the 2024 season as Kansas' offensive coordinator after three-year stints in the same role at Baylor and BYU. He oversaw the nation's No. 3 scoring offense at BYU in 2020 and helped Baylor to a Big 12 championship in 2021. Grimes, 56, was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which goes to college football's top assistant, in both 2021 and 2022.

He replaces Phil Longo, whom Wisconsin fired in November. The Badgers finished 107th nationally in scoring and dropped their final five games to finish 5-7 and miss a bowl. Coach Luke Fickell is 13-13 in two seasons at the school.

Grimes, a longtime offensive line coach, will be asked to restore Wisconsin's identity of physical line play and a strong run game. Baylor rose to 10th nationally in rushing in Grimes' first season, and Kansas ranks 12th nationally as senior running back Devin Neal has 1,266 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The Jayhawks on Saturday promoted Jim Zebrowski, the team's co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, to offensive coordinator. Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels announced Friday that he will return to the team in 2025.
