Flanders powers Tulsa past Memphis, 59-30
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- James Flanders ran for 249 yards and five touchdowns, both career highs, to lead Tulsa a 59-30 win over Memphis on Saturday night.
Flanders, who had 33 carries, also set a school record -- and tied the American Athletic Conference mark -- for most touchdowns in a game with his 7-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, which was set up by a fumble recovery and 44-yard return by Petera Wilson.
Raymond Taylor ran for a TD and had 102 yards rushing for Tulsa (6-2, 3-1 American Athletic Conference), while Dane Evans was 20-of-33 passing for 234 and two touchdowns, both to Keevan Lucas. Redford Jones made a 34-yard field goal.
A 3-yard touchdown pass from Riley Ferguson to Anthony Miller and the ensuing two-point conversion trimmed Memphis' deficit to 35-30 early in the third quarter. But it was all Tulsa the rest of the way.
Ferguson finished with 349 yards passing and three touchdowns for Memphis (5-3, 2-2). Miller had career highs with 12 receptions for 250 yards.
