The first day of college football's early signing period is in the books, and there was a ton of movement in the class rankings from commitments and flips throughout the day.
To analyze what happened on Wednesday, we will go through the winners and the teams that missed out to start the early signing period. This is meant to only look at the actual day and not analyze the entire recruiting classes, since that's what the class rankings are for.
Who won signing day?

South Carolina
The Gamecocks are making this list just for the simple fact of landing a verbal commitment from five-star defensive end Jordan Burch. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound prospect is the No. 5 recruit overall and the state's top prospect.
South Carolina beat out Alabama, Clemson, Georgia and LSU for Burch, which is a big feat in itself. As of Wednesday night, the Gamecocks were waiting on him to send in his letter of intent to make it official.

Florida State
After not signing a quarterback for two straight recruiting classes, new coach Mike Norvell was able to sign two in this 2020 class alone with three-star Tate Rodemaker and ESPN 300 quarterback Chubba Purdy.
Norvell was able to flip Purdy from Louisville on Wednesday and add him into the Seminoles' class. Purdy is a 6-foot-2, 196-pound prospect from Queen Creek, Arizona, who is ranked 121st overall in the ESPN 300.
On top of that, Florida State was also able to reel in ESPN 300 wide receiver Bryan Robinson and flip three-star defensive end Josh Griffis from Louisville. Griffis had been committed to Florida State at one point, then decommitted, committed to Louisvile and has now flipped back to the Seminoles.

Auburn
The Tigers have a sneaky good recruiting class in the 2020 cycle. While Alabama, Clemson and LSU are receiving a lot of the attention, Auburn has a top-10 recruiting class as it stands now.
The Tigers were able to land ESPN 300 linebacker Desmond Tisdol, the No. 237-ranked recruit overall and the sixth-ranked linebacker. They also were able to get a commitment from four-star defensive end Jeremiah Pegues and four-star linebacker Romello Height.
Auburn also added ESPN 300 safety Eric Reed Jr., the No. 231-ranked prospect overall, to the class on Wednesday.

Georgia
The Dawgs had an excellent day Wednesday, getting a commitment from ESPN 300 athlete Arian Smith, who will play wide receiver for Georgia. Smith is the No. 90 recruit overall and chose Georgia over Alabama.
He was joined in the class by ESPN 300 wide receiver Jermaine Burton, who flipped his commitment from LSU on Wednesday. Burton is the No. 68-ranked recruit overall out of Calabasas High School in Calabasas, California.
Georgia is already in the top five of the class rankings and still has quite a few targets left on the board.

Nebraska
The Huskers had moved up in the class rankings before the early signing period, but pushed themselves up even further into the top 20 on Wednesday.
Nebraska needed a big push down the stretch and the coaches were able to close strong by adding ESPN 300 defensive back Jaiden Francois, Connecticut wide receiver Alante Brown and Florida wide receiver Marcus Fleming.

Oregon
Oregon was able to land five-star linebacker Justin Flowe on Wednesday. Flowe is the No. 9-ranked prospect overall and gave the Ducks the top-ranked California recruit two classes in a row.
Oregon also added ESPN 300 quarterback Robby Ashford, who had recently decommitted from Ole Miss and signed with the Ducks.

Alabama
Alabama was on the final list for five-star Jordan Burch, ESPN 300 linebacker Phillip Webb, ESPN 300 athlete Arian Smith and a few other recruits who announced their commitments, but the Crimson Tide were not selected by either of them.
However, it wasn't all bad for Alabama. Nick Saban and his staff kept defensive tackle Tim Smith and quarterback Bryce Young in the class, away from flipping to other schools. Plus, the Crimson Tide flipped running back Jase McClellan, the No. 34 prospect in the country.
It may have been a relatively quiet signing day, but Alabama has the No. 2-ranked recruiting class for a reason.
Who missed out on national signing day?

USC
The Trojans are currently ranked outside the top 40 of the ESPN class rankings, which is incredible. The staff missed on the top in-state prospect, five-star linebacker Justin Flowe, for the second year in a row. (Defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux chose Oregon in the 2019 class.)
As it stands now, USC currently has only 11 commitments, two of which are ranked as four-stars; the remaining nine are three-star prospects. While USC has a shot to add ESPN 300 athlete Gary Bryant, this would be one of the worst recruiting classes for USC since ESPN started its rankings.
The Trojans finished with the No. 7 class in 2018, No. 5 in 2017 and No. 11 in 2016, and are now not even in the top 40. USC has a lot of work to do, and with the majority of FBS recruits signing in this early period, there isn't much left.

Miami
The Hurricanes started the day ranked 14th and moved down to No. 18 in the class rankings after missing on some of their remaining targets.
ESPN 300 defensive back Jaiden Francois chose Nebraska over Miami, and five-star linebacker Justin Flowe chose Oregon over the Hurricanes and a few other schools.
Miami also missed out on four-star linebacker Romello Height, who signed with Auburn. This is still a good class for the Hurricanes, but Wednesday could have been better.

Florida
It looked as though Florida would have a chance to flip some prospects away from some of the competition, including ESPN 300 defensive tackle Tim Smith from Alabama as well as a few others. But Smith and the other flip targets all remained committed and did not join the Gators.
It was a far cry from the splash Florida made in last year's early signing period, adding a number of ESPN 300 prospects, including teammates Lloyd Summerall, Keon Zipperer and Deyavie Hammond.
