SAN ANTONIO -- Middleweight titlist Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who makes his second defense against Marco Antonio Rubio on Saturday night at the Alamodome, was arrested on drunk driving charges in Los Angeles on Jan. 22 -- the home stretch of his training camp.
Ring magazine first reported the story Saturday on its website.
A hearing on the case is set for March 16.
According to Ring, Chavez Jr., 25, was arrested at 4:38 a.m. and held at Los Angeles County Jail until 10:25 a.m.
He is the son of Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., who has had multiple stints in rehabilitation for substance abuse. Chavez trains at trainer Freddie Roach's gym in Hollywood, Calif.
Billy Keane, Chavez's manager, declined comment to ESPN.com as did Lee Samuels, spokesperson for Top Rank, Chavez's promoter, who said he was unaware of the situation.
