Washington's Kelsey Plum scored 57 points in the Huskies' college basketball win over Utah on Saturday. With her 54th point, she passed Jackie Stiles as the all-time leading scorer in women's Division I history. Plum finished the game with 3,397 points, four more than Stiles.

The 57 points by Plum were the fifth-most in a game in women's Division I history (Division I women’s basketball records date to 1982).

Plum has scored the second-most points in Division I history, men's or women's, trailing Pete Maravich.

Plum is responsible for the top six scoring games in Washington history. She had four 44-point games and a 45-point game before Saturday’s game.

A 5-foot-8 guard, Plum is averaging a Division I-leading 31.6 points per game this season, third-most in a season in Division I history behind Patricia Hoskins of Mississippi Valley State (33.6 in 1988-89) and Andrea Congreaves of Mercer (33.0 in 1991-92).

Comparisons to Stiles

Plum has played 135 career games, more than Stiles did in her career at Missouri State.

In her senior season, Stiles averaged 30.3 points and shot 57 percent from the field. Plum is shooting 54 percent this season.

What’s next for Plum? The Pac-12 women’s tournament begins Thursday, and after that will almost certainly be an NCAA tournament berth for the Huskies. Plum has scored 139 points in six NCAA tournament games. Last season, she averaged 26.3 points in the first four NCAA games but was held to 17 points (on 28 percent shooting) in a national semifinal loss to Syracuse.

Plum could break another scoring record. She has scored 979 points this season, which puts her 84 from breaking Stiles’ single-season scoring record of 1,062, set in 2000-01.
