Today’s offerings: The ink was barely dry on the letters of intent for 2014 class when one of the best for the 2015 class came off the board; and what schools and recruiters have jumped out of the gate with success with players that won’t sign for another 360-plus days.

No. 4 junior off the board

After landing one of the nation’s top offensive classes that featured No. 1 quarterback Deshaun Watson and high-profile four-star receivers Artavis Scott, Trevion Thompson and Demarre Kitt, Clemson landed a guy on Wednesday to protect their quarterback of the future. Mitch Hyatt (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett), No. 4 in the ESPN Junior 300 and the No. 1 junior tackle, committed to Clemson in a public announcement during North Gwinnett’s signing day ceremony. Hyatt is an immediate impact guy who surely made Watson happy. A happy Watson will make the star receivers happy, too. The Tigers have seven commitments in the 2015 class, none rated higher than Hyatt. He is their third ESPN Junior 300 commitment.

Off to the races

Texas A&M, Clemson Alabama and Florida State already have jumped out of the starting blocks for the 2015 class with seven early commitments. The early list for Texas A&M is quite impressive with all seven commits, including No. 14 overall Daylon Mack (Gladewater, Texas/Gladewater), ranked in the ESPN Junior 300. Alabama has five ESPN Junior 300 commits, headlined by defensive end Mekhi Brown (Columbus, Ga./Carver), and Florida State also has five with safety Derwin James Jr. (Haines City, Fla./Haines City) the Noles' top recruit so far. Texas, Tennessee, West Virginia and TCU each have six commits apiece.

Best recruiters so far

There’s a long, long way to signing day for 2015, but several recruiters have already started to establish themselves. I released the initial edition of the ESPN recruiter power rankings for 2015 on Thursday, and Texas A&M’s B.J. Anderson was in the top spot. Anderson was the primary recruiter for Mack, who ranks as the second-highest-ranked recruit in the Lone Star State and was one of the most-coveted defensive tackle prospects in recent history. Florida State’s Tim Brewster, LSU’s Corey Raymond, Alabama's Kirby Smart and Nebraska’s Charlton Warren round out the top five.
