Recruit and return: Texas A&M says goodbye to top scorers

We continue our recruit and return series with the Texas A&M Aggies, whose season ended Thursday with a loss to Oklahoma in the Sweet 16. A look at what the 2016-17 season could hold:

Possible 2016-17 starting five (statistics reflect regular-season average)

G: J.J. Caldwell (incoming freshman)

G: Admon Gilder (6.9 PPG, 2.2 RPG)

F: DJ Hogg (6.5 PPG, 2.7 RPG)

F: Tyler Davis (11.2 PPG, 6.0 RPG)

F/C: Tonny Trocha-Morelos (6.9 PPG, 4.1 RPG)

Who is lost: Senior starters Danuel House (15.5 PPG), Jalen Jones (15.5 PPG), Anthony Collins (4.6 PPG, 4.3 APG) and Alex Caruso (7.8 PPG, 5.1 APG), who make up the bulk of the Aggies' scoring, rebounding and assists, will all depart. Former ESPN 100 center Elijah Thomas left the team after only eight games of 2015-16, subsequently announcing a transfer to Clemson.

Who is added: After assembling the No. 6 recruiting class in the country in 2015 (though part of that ranking was Thomas, who left), coach Billy Kennedy went out and added two ESPN 100 selections for 2016. No. 48 PF Robert Williams and No. 89 PG J.J. Caldwell currently comprise the No. 25 recruiting class in 2016, and the Aggies are expected to add at least three more prospects to this class during the late signing period.

What it means for next season: The good news is Tyler Davis, Tonny Trocha-Morelos, D.J. Hogg and Admon Gilder will provide talent. All have gained valuable playing experience and will be counted on to lead the Aggies in the departed statistical categories. Expect freshman J.J. Caldwell to get the first shot at running the show at the point, and for Robert Williams to challenge for playing time on the front line with his excellent athleticism and ability to rebound.

Trending: Level. The Aggies' leaders in scoring, assists and rebounding may have left the program, but the program has excellent young talent returning and the incoming freshmen are good enough to contribute right away. The unknown is who Billy Kennedy and his staff will add to the recruiting class. Either way, the Aggies could have the pieces to get back to the NCAA tournament.
