Final Texas POWERADE baseball rankings: Cy Ranch is No. 1

After games on Sunday, June 10

For most of the season, it appeared that the Class 5A and 4A titles would go through Corpus Christi, what with Carroll and Calallen dominating the respective scenes. But then Calallen went down in the regional semifinals, and then Carroll fell to A&M Consolidated in the state semifinals.

In the end, Cypress Ranch and Rockwall-Heath emerged as the state champions. For Cy Ranch, sophomore Corbin Martin earned MVP honors by hitting a home run, sac fly and two RBIs, pushing the Mustangs past A&M Consolidated and up to No. 21 in the POWERADE FAB 50. Meanwhile, Rockwall-Heath rode another impressive performance from Jovan Hernandez, who threw a four-hitter on the mound and belted a home run at the plate to help beat Cleburne 10-1 in the 4A championship and move his team to a No. 32 national ranking.

Here are the final rankings (last week's rankings in parentheses):

1. Cypress Ranch (Houston) 32-8 (4)

Corbin Martin hit a home run, a sac fly and two RBIs to lead Mustangs past AaM Consolidated 4-1 in the Class 5A championship.

2. Carroll (Corpus Christi) 32-5 (1)

3. Arlington Martin 37-6-1 (2)
