Take advantage of injured NBA stars' replacements in DFS

Each day, we'll provide you with the players to target in your daily leagues, from the high-priced studs to the solid midrange values to the cheaper, riskier players with upside.

In general, you want to use safer options in your cash games and rely on some riskier, high-upside options in your bigger tournaments. If you can average 5-6 points per $1,000 of salary, you'll typically end up with at least some cash in your pocket.

Note: We're sending out these Insider tips early in the day, and much can change after these are posted. Be sure to follow this Twitter list of NBA reporters, bloggers and announcers for late-breaking injury updates and lineup changes.

POINT GUARD

High-priced studs

Kemba Walker, Charlotte Hornets (DK: $8,300, FD: $8,200) at MIA: Walker poured in 34 points to lead Charlotte to a Game 4 win, evening the series at 2-2. He averaged 24 PPG in the first two games in Miami, which is the site of Game 5, and is one of the two big-name point guards to consider on the three-game slate.

Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers (DK: $8,200, FD: $8,000) at LAC: The good news for Lillard is that he no longer has to contend with Chris Paul's stifling defense. The bad news is he has to deal with Austin Rivers, one of the most underrated defenders in the game. The sense going into this one is that Portland has a chance to take control of this series, and much of that will fall on the shoulders of Lillard.

Cheap with upside

Shaun Livingston, Golden State Warriors (DK: $4,700, FD: $4,400) vs. HOU: Livingston averaged 16 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the two games Stephen Curry didn't play in this series, and you count on him to be heavily owned in this affordable salary range on Wednesday.

Austin Rivers, Los Angeles Clippers (DK: $3,300 at SG, FD: $4,000) vs. POR: Rivers will be thrust into big minutes in the absence of Paul, and his raw scoring ability gives him an excellent chance to surpass his salary value -- possibly by halftime.

Pablo Prigioni, Los Angeles Clippers (DK: $2,000, FD: $3,500) vs. POR: A deal more on DraftKings than FanDuel, the veteran point guard erupted for over 40 fantasy points when the Clippers rested their starters late in the regular season. Anything like that tonight would be surprising in a pivotal playoff game, but it's not out of the realm of possibility for the minimum priced player.

SHOOTING GUARD

High-priced studs

James Harden, Houston Rockets (DK: $11,100, FD: $10,500) at GS: Different night, same story with Harden. Nobody has the fantasy upside of the Rockets star shooting guard on a night when there's a three-game slate and Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard aren't playing. Fade him at your own risk.

Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors (DK: $7,900, FD: $7,600) vs. HOU: Thompson took 20 shots in each of the two games Stephen Curry missed in the Rockets series, which are right around five more than he shot in the two games Curry played in. You can count on Thompson to pick up the scoring slack for as long as Curry is out.

Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat (DK: $7,500, FD: $7,700) vs. CHA: Wade may be overlooked in favor of Harden and Thompson (without Curry), making him a nice option to zag on when the masses are zigging. His numbers in the Charlotte series are impressive -- 18.3 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 6.5 APG -- and the series returns to Miami on Wednesday.

Solid values

C.J. McCollum, Portland Trail Blazers (DK: $6,700, FD: $6,900) at LAC: McCollum's salary is down under $7,000 on both DraftKings and FanDuel thanks to a series that has seen his scoring drop in the 17-point range. But you can't expect the Clippers defense to be the same without Paul and Griffin, and if there was ever a time to buy low on a scorer like McCollum this is it.

Jamal Crawford, Los Angeles Clippers (DK: $5,100, FD: $4,800) vs. POR: When Paul and Blake Griffin are off the court, as they will be going forward in the playoffs, the Clippers offense tends to funnel through Crawford. And if the Clippers have any chance to move past the first round, it's going to require some monster games out of the three-time Sixth Man of the Year. He's certainly worth a look in this salary range.

SMALL FORWARD

Solid values

Al-Farouq Aminu, Portland Trail Blazers (DK: $5,600, FD: $6,000) at LAC: Aminu played the game of his life to help preserve the Game 4 win in Portland, knotting the series at two games apiece. He probably won't score 30 points or make six 3s tonight like he did on Monday, but you can count on Aminu's energy to put him in the double-double range yet again. He has as much upside as any small forward out there tonight.

Trevor Ariza, Houston Rockets (DK: $5,200, FD: $5,500) at GS: Ariza's 38 minutes per game this postseason is a great thing for someone in this salary range, and his ownership could be low thanks to his poor shooting (27.9 percent) through the first four games of the series. If you roster Ariza, you're banking on a breakout game from the veteran swingman.

Cheap with upside

Andre Iguodala, Golden State Warriors (DK: $4,600, FD: $4,300) vs. HOU: It will fall on Iguodala and Livingston, along with Draymond Green and Thompson, to handle the ball while Curry is sidelined. That makes Iggy an appealing option, given his ability to impact the game as a scorer, passer, rebounder and defender.

Jeff Green, Los Angeles Clippers (DK: $3,500, FD: $3,800) vs. POR: The mid-season acquisition is always boom or bust in DFS, with little in between. That might keep the masses away from him tonight, but it's rare to find someone priced under $4,000 with upside of over 30 fantasy points, and Green is just that without Paul and Griffin in the lineup.

Paul Pierce, Los Angeles Clippers (DK: $2,000, FD: $3,500) vs. POR: Pierce is near the end of his legendary NBA career, but if there was ever a night to get him in your lineups this is probably it. He's priced at the minimum on both DraftKings and FanDuel, and will likely be depended on to play over 20 minutes a game going forward for the shorthanded Clippers.

POWER FORWARD

High-priced studs

Draymond Green, Golden State Warriors (DK: $9,700, FD: $8,800) vs. HOU: One of my favorite plays of the night, Green will undoubtedly take his leadership role to another level while Curry is out. This is an opportunity to put the series away, and with the game being at Oracle Arena, you have to expect the leader of the Warriors to bring the energy and impact the game on both sides of the court. He is averaging 12.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in the series.

Cheap with upside

Donatas Motiejunas, Houston Rockets (DK: $3,500, FD: $3,700) at GS: Motiejunas has seen his role expand over the last two games, and his numbers have picked up as a result (11 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 2 APG, 1.5 SPG). Anything like that tonight in Oakland makes him a great value.

CENTER

High-priced studs

Hassan Whiteside, Miami Heat (DK: $8,100, FD: $8,300) vs. CHA: A safer play than DeAndre Jordan due to the uncertainty surrounding the Clippers lineup with Paul and Griffin out, Whiteside has had quite a series against the Hornets, averaging 14.8 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. His best two games of the series both came at home, and Game 5 is back in Miami so take note.

DeAndre Jordan, Los Angeles Clippers (DK: $8,000, FD: $8,000) vs. POR: Jordan doesn't have Paul or Blake to set him up for lobs near the rim, but he still has as much upside of any center on Wednesday thanks to his rebounding and shot-blocking prowess. He has averaged 15.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks to go with 9.8 PPG in the first four games of the series.

Solid values

Dwight Howard, Houston Rockets (DK: $6,800, FD: $6,900) at GS: Howard has had a double-double in each of the first four games against Golden State, averaging 14.5 points and 12.3 rebounds per game. He remains a solid option that could be overlooked a bit on Wednesday.

Mason Plumlee, Portland Trail Blazers (DK: $6,200, FD: $6,100) at LAC: Plumlee has scored only 8 points over the last two games, but he's also averaged 17.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists in those games. When you throw in his near triple-double in Game 2 (17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists), you may have a difficult time finding a better bargain at any position tonight.

Al Jefferson, Charlotte Hornets (DK: $4,900, FD: $5,700) at MIA: Jefferson came back down to earth in Games 3 and 4 after two big games in Miami, and tonight he returns to South Beach for Game 5. His experience and moves around the basket make him a candidate to go off for 20 points any night out, even against Whiteside. He is averaging 14.3 points and 6.3 rebounds this series.

Cheap with upside

Marreese Speights, Golden State Warriors (DK: $3,100, FD: $3,300 at PF) vs. HOU: Speights has averaged 12.5 points in the first four games of the Houston series, providing scoring and toughness of the Warriors bench. He makes for a good contrarian play in tournaments, and frees up money to allocate to the rest of your roster.
