Marshall hopes Bennett opens pass game

Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall said Tuesday he's happy for the addition of tight end Martellus Bennett, because it could take some of the receiving pressure off him.

In his first season with the Bears, Marshall set career highs with 118 catches, 194 targets and 1,508 yards. The Bears receiver with the next highest number of targets was Earl Bennett with 49. Marshall believes the wear and tear may have had led to his offseason hip surgery.

"I am (looking forward to having more weapons)," Marshall told ESPN Chicago's Sarah Spain while attending the ESPYs. "It was tough sledding last year. I think that's why I had to have the surgery. I had 2-3 guys on me every single play, but bringing in big boy Martellus, I don't think the league really knows how good he is. I didn't know, and that was one of my great friends in the league. So I'm excited to see him, he's going to be awesome this year for us."

Martellus Bennett caught 55 passes on 90 targets for the New York Giants last season.
