AP women's college basketball poll reaction: What's next for each Top 25 team

The new AP Top 25 women's college basketball poll is out.

As conference play heats up, we're down to just three undefeated teams: UCLA, LSU and Ohio State. Maryland and Georgia Tech both fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, with the Yellow Jackets struggling with an 0-2 week.

The weekend also saw a top-5 matchup with South Carolina rolling over Texas for its 11th straight win.

What does it all mean for the AP Top 25? Let's break down the rankings.

1. UCLA Bruins

Previous ranking: 1

2024-25 record: 16-0

Stat to know: UCLA beat Purdue by 34 points Tuesday for its eighth win this season by at least 30. The Bruins had eight such games all of last season.

2. South Carolina Gamecocks

Previous ranking: 2

2024-25 record: 16-1

Stat to know: After Sunday's 67-50 romp over Texas, Dawn Staley's Gamecocks have won nine of their past 11 games against AP top-5 opponents.

What's next: Thursday at No. 19 Alabama, 7 p.m., SECN+


3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Previous ranking: 3

2024-25 record: 14-2

Stat to know: Notre Dame is 5-0 in conference play for the first time since 2018-19, when the Irish started 6-0 -- and made the national title game, losing to Baylor 82-81.

4. USC Trojans

Previous ranking: 4

2024-25 record: 16-1

Stat to know: In Sunday night's win over Penn State, JuJu Watkins had 35 points on 13-of-15 shooting (86.6%), matching the highest field goal percentage in a game in USC history (min. 15 attempts). Pam McGee also went 13-for-15 in 1984 against Rutgers.

5. LSU Tigers

Previous ranking: 6

2024-25 record: 18-0

Stat to know: LSU is coming off a thrilling 89-87 win over Tennessee on Thursday night, when Kailyn Gilbert made a layup with 1 second left. In the win, Aneesah Morrow (23 points, 21 rebounds) became the fourth SEC player in the past 15 seasons with multiple 20/20 games in a season.

6. UConn Huskies

Previous ranking: 7

2024-25 record: 15-2

Stat to know: Playing their second game without leading scorer Paige Bueckers (ankle sprain), the Huskies hit seven 3-pointers in the second half to outscore Georgetown 35-22 after the break in Saturday's 73-55 win.

7. Texas Longhorns

Previous ranking: 5

2024-25 record: 16-2

Stat to know: Texas' 27.8% field goal percentage (22-of-79) in Sunday's 67-50 loss to South Carolina was the Longhorns' worst in a game since the 2021 Elite 8 vs. South Carolina (23.0%).

8. Maryland Terrapins

Previous ranking: 8

2024-25 record: 15-1

Stat to know: Maryland bounced back from its first loss of the season (vs. USC on Wednesday) by outscoring Wisconsin 54-20 in the paint Saturday. The Terps hit 54.2% of their shots from the field in an 83-68 win.

9. Ohio State Buckeyes

Previous ranking: 9

2024-25 record: 16-0

Stat to know: Ohio State, off to its best start since winning its first 19 games in 2022-23, had 31 points in the second quarter Sunday against Oregon after scoring just 8 in the first quarter.

10. TCU Horned Frogs

Previous ranking: 11

2024-25 record: 17-1

Stat to know: TCU won at Texas Tech 69-43 on Saturday night for the first time in six years. The Horned Frogs held the Raiders to 5 points in the second quarter and 4 in the fourth.

11. Kansas State Wildcats

Previous ranking: 12

2024-25 record: 17-1

Stat to know: K-State, which entered Saturday's game against BYU leading the country in field goal percentage (.508) and assists per game (22.9), topped both those marks in its 92-65 win over the Cougars, shooting 52.1% (37-of-71) with 26 assists.

12. Kentucky Wildcats

Previous ranking: 15

2024-25 record: 15-1

Stat to know: In Sunday's win over Auburn, Georgia Amoore became the first SEC player with 20 points and 10 assists in a conference game since Georgia's Que Morrison vs. LSU on Dec. 30, 2021.

13. Oklahoma Sooners

Previous ranking: 10

2024-25 record: 14-3

Stat to know: Oklahoma's 17-point margin (27-10) in the first quarter of Sunday's win over Texas A&M is the Sooners' largest in any quarter against an SEC opponent since quarters were implemented for the 2015-16 season.

14. North Carolina Tar Heels

Previous ranking: 19

2024-25 record: 15-3

Stat to know: After beating Duke in overtime Thursday, North Carolina trailed Boston College at halftime Sunday, but used a 26-10 run over the third and fourth quarters to pull away for an 80-67 win.

15. Tennessee Lady Vols

Previous ranking: 16

2024-25 record: 14-2

Stat to know: Tennessee outscored Arkansas 28-2 off turnovers in Sunday's  93-63 win. The Lady Vols entered Sunday leading Division I with 36.5 PPG off turnovers this season.

16. Duke Blue Devils

Previous ranking: 14

2024-25 record: 13-4

Stat to know: The Blue Devils, who scored only 46 points in an overtime loss to North Carolina on Thursday, continued to misfire Sunday in the first half against Virginia, shooting 27% and making only 1 of 10 3-pointers. Virginia led 29-20 at halftime, but Duke rallied for a 60-55 win behind a 19-point third quarter.

17. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Previous ranking: 13

2024-25 record: 15-2 

Stat to know: Georgia Tech, which has dropped two in a row after a 15-0 start, is winless in 12 games against Louisville after Sunday's 69-60 loss.

18. California Bears

Previous ranking: 24

2024-25 record: 16-2

Stat to know: In Sunday's 82-70 win over Florida State, Cal had a 50-point first half for the second time this season (51 vs. San José State on Nov. 9).

19. Alabama Crimson Tide

2024-25 record: 16-2

Stat to know: Alabama's Aaliyah Nye scored 24 of her career-high 32 points in the second half Sunday against Ole Miss. That's the second-most points in a half by an SEC player this season. (Vanderbilt's Khamil Pierre scored 28 in the first half against Evansville on Dec. 14.)

20. West Virginia Mountaineers

Previous ranking: 17

2024-25 record: 13-3

Stat to know: After holding a 5-point halftime lead at Oklahoma State on Saturday, the Mountaineers shot just 21.2% from the floor and were outscored 31-19 after the break in a 64-57 loss.

21. NC State Wolfpack

Previous ranking: 21

2024-25 record: 12-4

Stat to know: The Wolfpack scored 34 points on 65% shooting in the third quarter of Sunday's 81-67 win over Stanford.

22. Michigan State Spartans

2024-25 record: 13-3

Stat to know: Grace VanSlooten came off the bench Sunday to register her third double-double of the season -- 19 points, 12 rebounds -- as the Spartans snapped Washington's five-game winning streak, 80-68.

23. Utah Utes

Previous ranking: 22

2024-25 record: 13-3

Stat to know: After suffering its first conference loss Wednesday vs. Kansas State, the Utes rebounded thanks to their rebounding. Utah dominated the boards 56-26, including 19 offensive rebounds, in a 69-42 rout of Houston on Saturday.

24. Minnesota Golden Gophers

Previous ranking: NR

2024-25 record: 16-1

Stat to know: Other than its loss to Nebraska in the Big Ten opener, Minnesota has allowed no more than 61 points in a game this season. The Gophers are third nationally in scoring defense (50.8 PPG).

24. Oklahoma State Cowgirls

2024-25 record: 14-2

Stat to know: Oklahoma State, which beat then-No. 17 West Virginia on Saturday, is off to its best start since going 17-1 in 2013-14.
