Women's College Basketball, Ashland Eagles

ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Ashland University women's basketball team set the NCAA Division II record for consecutive victories with its 58th straight, beating Wayne State 101-84 on Thursday night.

The Eagles (21-0) topped the previous mark set by the Winona State men's team that won 57 straight games in 2006 and 2007.

Senior forward Laina Snyder and sophomore guard Jodi Johnson each had 24 points to lead the offensive effort. Snyder also had 12 rebounds for her 43rd career double-double, and Johnson had seven rebounds and three assists.

Ashland broke the Division II women's record with its 52nd consecutive win on Jan. 6, surpassing the string put together by Washburn University of Topeka, Kansas, in 2005-06.

The UConn women hold the overall record with 111 consecutive wins, a streak that ended in the Final Four last season.
