Vote: Biggest questions facing Florida following Jim McElwain's departure

College Football, Florida Gators

On Sunday afternoon, the University of Florida and head football coach Jim McElwain mutually agreed to part ways, ending his run with the Gators after less than three full seasons. The announcement came following a turbulent week for the program that was capped with a blowout loss to Georgia on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla.

McElwain took the Gators job following the 2014 season after a successful run at Colorado State and led Florida to back-to-back SEC Championship Game appearances in 2015 and 2016 before getting off to a rough start this fall. The Gators are 3-4 as he departs.

Is this the right move for Florida? And with successors already being discussed, we ask who might be the best fit.

Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon has been named the Gators' interim head coach. In his last stint as head coach, Shannon went 28-22 over four seasons with the University of Miami from 2007-10.
