Browne, Meyerhoff win US 25K championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Dan Browne has won his third U.S. 25-kilometer championship and Sally Meyerhoff has won her first, running on an alternate course organizers set up because of flooding.

Both finished second on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich., in fields open to international athletes.

Browne, of Beaverton, Ore., was clocked in 1 hour, 15 minutes, 56 seconds, behind overall winner Isaak Kimaiyo of Kenya. He finished in 1:15:36.

Jason Hartmann of Boulder, Colo., was second among U.S. runners, and Fasil Bizuneh of Flagstaff, Ariz., was third.

Meyerhoff, of Tempe, Ariz., finished in 1:27:28 -- 12 seconds behind Kenya's Genoveva Kigen among women.

Magdalena Lewy Boulet of Oakland, Calif., was second among U.S. women, followed by Tera Moody of Colorado Springs, Colo.
