CAPANNORI, Italy, March 11 - Frenchman Julien El
Fares won Wednesday's first stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico race
from Cecina to Capannori.
The Cofidis rider beat Vladimir Duma of Ukraine in a sprint
finish after the pair attacked together. Italy's Daniele Bennati
won the sprint for third place.
El Fares will wear the race leader's jersey in Thursday's
177-km second stage from Volterra to Marina di Carrara.
