STORY: Lionel Messi hit the training pitch with his Inter Miami teammates on Sunday (June 22) as they prepare for their final Club World Cup group stage match slated for Monday (June 23) in Miami against Brazilian side Palmeiras.

Miami and Palmeiras are both on four points while their other Group A opponents Porto and Al Ahly have one point apiece.

Inter Miami will need a win against the Brazilians to top their group, but a draw would guarantee them qualification to the knockout stages along with Sao Paulo-based club.

Defenders Jordi Alba and Noah Allen said they are not taking top of the table clash lightly and said they are not surprised to see several South American clubs outperforming expectations at the 32-team tournament.

“These days, any club can challenge you. And I am glad that we are here and we’ve seen a lot of top-notch matches. And I hope we can get the round of 16 and give them a hit,” Alba said.

“I think the teams in South America deserve to get recognized because the platform – the tournament like this wasn’t always a thing. So, for South American teams to be recognized was more difficult. I think now it is finally showing that not only is it Europe, but South America, North America, teams from all around the world are surprising people,” added Allen.
