Tech's Martin misses Gator Bowl with hurt knee

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tackle Jimmy Martin sat out Virginia
Tech's Gator Bowl game Monday with a sprained right knee, leaving
to a backup the job of blocking NCAA sacks leader Elvis Dumervil of
Lousiville.

Left tackle Martin came in with a streak of 45 consecutive
starts for the 12th-ranked Hokies. Junior Brandon Frye made his
first career start.

Martin sprained the medial collateral ligament in practice
Friday. He had hoped to play against No. 15 Louisville, but was
still limping badly during pregame warmups.

Dumervil entered the game needing five sacks to break the NCAA
record of 24 set by Arizona State's Terrell Suggs in 2002.
