CHICAGO -- The Cubs have placed infielder Aaron Miles on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain, and optioned left-handed reliever Neal Cotts and infielder Bobby Scales to Triple-A Iowa.
The struggling Cubs also recalled infielder Jake Fox and purchased the contracts of infielder Andres Blanco and left-hander Jason Waddell from Iowa on Wednesday.
Miles was batting .204 with four RBIs in 37 games before getting hurt, while Cotts was 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in 19 appearances. Scales hit .257 with a homer and five RBIs in 14 games since making his big league debut after 11 years in the minors.
Fox was batting .423 with 17 homers and 50 RBIs at Triple-A. He'll be used off the bench and could play third, first or in the outfield.
