ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Jermaine Griffin scored 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting to lead Texas-Arlington past Western Illinois 80-57 Saturday.
A three-point play by Griffin punctuated a 15-1 run that gave the Mavericks a 20-5 lead with 9:27 left in the first half. UTA's lead was never less than 13 points after that.
The Leathernecks (2-5) shot just 28 percent and were outrebounded 55-33.
Larry Posey had 11 points and 10 rebounds for UTA (7-0), and Brandon Long added 10 points.
Nikola Bodic led Western Illinois with 10 points, while Jerryc Owens-Murray had seven points and 10 rebounds.
UTA led by as many as 31 points midway through the second half.
