Revs select Wake Forest forward

The New England Revolution selected forward Zack Schilawski with the No. 9 pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft on Thursday.

Schilawski, a Wake Forest senior from Cary, N.C., was a second team All-American by College Soccer News and first team All-ACC last season. He led the team and the ACC in goals (14) and points (35), and also had 5 game-winning goals and 7 assists.

Schilawski, a 5-foot-10 biology major, was also selected to the NSCAA/adidas Men's College Scholar All-American first team and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American first team.

His Wake Forest teammate Ike Opara was selected No. 3 overall by the San Jose Earthquakes.

In the second round, the Revs selected Seth Sinovic, a senior left back from Creighton University, and Zak Boggs, a senior forward from the University of South Florida.

New England chose Jason Griffiths, a forward/midfielder from Kentucky, in the third round, and Lehigh defender Adam Welch in the fourth round.

The Revolution will open their 2010 season with an away game against the LA Galaxy on March 27. The team's home opener is set for April 10, when they host Toronto FC. Ticket information is available at revolutionsoccer.net.
