Sticky situation for offense

Maybe every Bruins player should try breaking his stick against the hallway wall. After all, it worked for captain Zdeno Chara.

After missing a bunny in front with an open net as time expired in the first period Wednesday night in Anaheim, a NESN camera caught Chara destroying his stick on his way to the dressing room. Chara, with a new stick in hand, then broke a nine-game drought without a goal in the second period.

Unfortunately for Chara and the Bruins, not enough offense followed to help them overcome their defensive breakdowns in a 4-3 loss to the Ducks.

Stop me if you've heard this before, but the Bruins generated tons of offensive chances but couldn't cash enough in. David Krejci obviously took to heart his new role as No. 1 center; grouped with Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder, Krejci played one of his best games in weeks. Mark Recchi's shift to center didn't slow down his line, as he registered two assists and Marco Sturm scored a goal.

However, red-hot Anaheim goaltender Jonas Hiller was just too good. He robbed Krejci twice in tight and finished with 27 saves. If Hiller needed any proof that he's going well, he got some evidence when Ryder ripped a shot off the post.

The Bruins' bean-counters might not like the idea and arena cleaning crews might have some extra work, but if shattering some sticks can get the Bruins offensive going, it's worth trying.
