EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Tim Tetrick has become the youngest harness driver to win 5,000 races.
The 27-year-old set the mark Saturday night when he sent Trade Editor to victory in the fourth race at the Meadowlands. His career benchmarks of 2,000 wins in 2006, 3,000 in 2007 and 4,000 in 2008 also set similar records.
The Illinois native has set earnings records for the past two years, banking $19.7 million in purses in 2008.
And despite missing most of January while recovering from hip replacement surgery, Tetrick is currently atop the sport's earnings list with $6.5 million and among the top five in overall wins this year.
