Stars, Flames get closer AHL teams

The minor league affiliates of the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames have new homes.

The Stars will have an affiliate in the Austin suburb of Cedar Park, after going without a minor league team last season.

The Flames' affiliate is moving from Moline, Ill., to Abbotsford, British Columbia.

The Texas Stars were granted limited membership in the American Hockey League on Tuesday for the 2009-10 season. Limited membership means the club must complete the purchase of an AHL franchise within a year.

Dallas spread its prospects among affiliates of other NHL teams this past season. For years, its minor league team was in Des Moines, Iowa. That affiliation ended last year after Dallas announced plans to have a team closer to home.
