Tennessee executive associate athletic director John Currie will be introduced Monday as the new athletic director at Kansas State.
Currie, a 10-year veteran of the Tennessee staff, was Mike Hamilton's top assistant and took an active role in the Volunteers' basketball program.
"We wanted to fill this position with the best candidate possible, and with John we feel we have accomplished that," incoming KSU president Kirk Schulz said in a prepared statement. "He brings energy, integrity and experience to his new role at Kansas State and we are pleased to introduce him as our new director of athletics."
Currie, 38, was responsible for overseeing much of Tennessee's fundraising, marketing, public relations, internet and broadcasting efforts.
He was active in the recent hires of Tennessee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl, baseball coach Todd Raleigh and the 2008 search that brought Lane Kiffin to the Volunteers.
Currie, a Wake Forest graduate, was in charge of the department's five-phase, $200-million renovation of Neyland Stadium. He also was active in a $20 million improvement project to Thompson-Boling Arena and the development of a $16 million basketball practice facility.
He will succeed Bob Krause, who quit the athletic director job on March 31 for another position in the Kansas State system.
