It has already been a wild morning out West with USC getting off to a fast start and the headliner thus far has been receiver Markeith Ambles (McDonough, Ga./Henry County) giving the Trojans three of the nation's top receivers.
Ambles was an early commit to Tennessee, but USC has always been his dream school. Once Lane Kiffin left the Vols for USC, it seemed like only a matter of time before Ambles headed West as well.
The Trojans also stole UT linebacker commit Glen Stanley (Thatcher, Ariz./Eastern Arizona J.C.), who committed to the Vols a few weeks ago but visited Los Angeles this past weekend and signed early Wednesday morning.
USC was also able to hold on to offensive lineman Giovanni Di Poalo (Ventura, Calif./St. Bonaventure), who was torn in previous days between the Trojans and UCLA. Di Poalo has a lot of family ties to the Bruins and visited Westwood last weekend, but honored his earlier commitment to the Trojans.
Cornerback Nickell Robey (Frostproof, Ga./Frostproof) and linebacker Hayes Pullard (Los Angeles/Crenshaw) both announced for the Trojans Monday night and many are predicting the nation's top offensive lineman, Seantrel Henderson (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) will pick the Trojans as well.
UCLA closing strong
UCLA bounced back nicely after losing Pullard by reeling in elite linebacker prospect Jordan Zumwalt (Huntington Beach, Calif./Edison), who was an early commit to Stanford and looked heavily at USC as well, but said he felt most comfortable at UCLA and liked the idea of staying close to home.
More good news could be coming later in the day as word is leaking out that the Bruins could be leading for Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Portland, Ore./Douglas). Nebraska and Oregon State are the other finalists.
Huskies' surprise
If there was a surprise of the day, it was defensive back Sean Parker (Harbor City, Calif./Narbonne) choosing Washington over Michigan and USC. Just a few weeks ago, Parker was down to USC, Michigan and Cal and said he was done with visits. He took a late trip to UW just a week ago and sealed the deal this morning.
Parker is a very talented safety prospect and the biggest hitting defensive back in the West. He has a high football IQ, is always around the ball and should see the field early for the Huskies.
Cal snatches Allen
Cal also scored big by reeling in defensive lineman Gabe King (South Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) and big-time athlete Keenan Allen (Greensboro, N.C./Northern Guilford), who was committed to Alabama.
King was close to committing to Oregon during the Army All-American Bowl, but decided to hold off. He and Allen have always talked about playing together and word was the Tide didn't have room for King in their class.
Allen is a difference maker at safety or receiver. The Tide recruited him to play safety, but the Bears have a huge need at receiver and could play Allen on the offensive side of the ball.
