FONTANA, Calif. -- David Reutimann's front-row qualifying effort Friday was disallowed when NASCAR inspectors confiscated both rear shock absorbers on the No. 00 Toyota that was outside the limits for shock pressure.
"This is a result of [Reutimann's car] exceeding gas level limits in the rear shocks," said NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston.
Reutimann will have to start at the back of the field in Sunday's Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway. No additional penalties are expected for the team, which is part of Michael Waltrip Racing.
Friday's effort, a lap at 183.108 mph on the 2-mile Fontana oval, would have been his first front row starting spot since winning the pole at Dover in May. Denny Hamlin won the pole for Sunday's race.
