Fraser McReight is set to confirm a contract extension that will keep him at the Reds and with Australian rugby beyond the 2027 World Cup on home soil. Australian rugby standout Fraser McReight has shunned big-money international offers to remain at the Queensland Reds beyond the 2027 World Cup. Regarded as one of the world's best No.7s, the 26-year-old Wallabies star will confirm a long-term contract extension on Friday. It's a boost for the code in the country, and the Reds ahead of Saturday's blockbuster against the undefeated NSW Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium. McReight, two-time defending Australian Super Rugby player of the year, was sensational for club and country in 2024 and had attracted huge overseas interest. But, with the 2027 World Cup in Australia on the horizon, he's joined good mate and Wallabies captain Harry Wilson in committing to the domestic competition. Reds hooker Matt Faessler and Brumbies lock Nick Frost both confirmed their contract extensions on Thursday as Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt steadily builds a list that will remain once he leaves his post after this year's Rugby Championship. "Fraser's been pretty clear ... he wants to stay here. He loves playing with these boys, playing with the Wallabies and three of the best years are ahead of us," Queensland Rugby Union boss David Hanham said earlier this week. "If things can get sorted out the way we all would like, he's got a long career here." The Reds (2-1) have top-four aspirations this season and consider the Waratahs (3-0) clash a must-win fixture if that is to eventuate. "It's massive," chief executive Hanham said. "It's always a big game, but how the season's been built from what (former coach) Brad (Thorn) handed over. "We want to be hosting home finals at the stadium. A win against NSW would be really important indicator of where we're at. "And off the back of how we performed last week (in a loss to the Crusaders), a lot of players want to rectify that."
