Injury to Danny Cipriani marred Sale Sharks' glorious 28-27 victory over Wasps as Steve Diamond's side climbed into the top six in the Aviva Premiership.
With Sale trailing by four points in the final minute of the game, Faf de Klerk charged towards the line off the back of a five-metre scrum but collided with both Dan Robson and Cipriani's head.
Robson was replaced while Cipriani lay motionless on the ground for eight minutes before being stretchered off in the 89th minute. There was some sign of recovery with the fly-half lifting his hand in appreciation to the crowd that sang his name as he was brought from the field of play.
Play restarted with a scrum to Sale and after their forwards made the hard yards up front, they went wide. From 10 metres right of the right upright, de Klerk went left, through the hands of Mike Haley, AJ MacGinty and over the top to the awaiting Marland Yarde who scored in the corner in the 91st minute.
It was a thrilling end to an incredible game which looked out of Sale's reach at 17-0 down inside 21 minutes as a brace of tries from Josh Bassett and a penalty from Elliot Daly seemingly put Wasps in control.
But as Sale lost James O'Connor through injury, they chipped away with a penalty before an incredible three minutes at the end of the half as first Rob Webber bundled his way over when MacGinty was held short.
Then in the final minute of the half Kearnan Myall lost the ball in midfield, Sale countered and a delicate chip in behind by MacGinty was touched down by Denny Solomona's replacement Byron McGuigan.
MacGinty's missed conversion saw Sale trail 17-15 at the break but when Bryn Evans blocked down a Dan Robson box kick a minute into the half, Sale were in dreamland.
MacGinty missed added a penalty for a six point lead, but it looked as though they were going to let their hard work go to waste as Christian Wade wasn't held in the tackle, and after drawing in the defence, he put the ball out wide to Elliot Daly to walked in to score. Jimmy Gopperth converted for a one-point lead with a half-hour remaining.
Wasps were almost the catalyst of their own downfall when Cipriani was sin-binned for hands in the ruck, but they escaped the 10 minutes down to 14 men with a four-point lead when Gopperth added a penalty.
That led to the grandstand finish and with James Haskell sin-binned in the final minute of the 80, with an attacking scrum to Sale, it looked like Sale would snatch victory.
In the end they did, but concern will be for Cipriani in what was an absolute cracker at the AJ Bell Stadium.
