The Jaguares enjoyed very much their first match on Australian soil, scoring five tries to three in defeating the NSW Waratahs despite having two players sent to the sin-bin at Allianz Stadium.
The result marked the Waratahs' 11th consecutive defeat by an overseas team, and the hosts conceded 40 or more points for the fourth time in their past five games For the dwindling band of Tahs supporters, it was a depressingly familiar story as their team started slowly, missed tackles, committed skill errors, lacked discipline, and too often went sideways rather than straight, in a performance that failed to mark with any sense of occasion the final home performance of team stalwarts Dean Mumm and Rob Horne.
The Jaguares sauntered to a 25-3 lead by the 33rd minute, scoring three tries before their locks, Guido Petti and Ben Macome, were sent to the sin bin in the two minutes before halftime. The Waratahs raised their fans' hopes with 21 unanswered points in nine minutes either side of the interval, but the visitors steadied when they regained their full complement to secure the points with the final two tries of the game.
The Waratahs' problems started almost straight away, as they conceded a penalty after 20 seconds, which gifted the visitors an early 3-0 lead. Flanker Pablo Matera, centre Matias Orlando and Macome then crossed for tries to swell the Jaguares' advantage to 22 points before Israel Folau wrestled a Bernard Foley cross-field kick from Jagueres counterpart Joaquin Tuculet to post his sixth try in his last five Super games.
New Zealand referee Ben O'Keefe tired of the persistent infringing, sin-binning Petti and Macome, and the Waratahs took advantage with Bernard Foley scoring two tries in five minutes after half-time to bring the hosts within one point with 35 minutes to play.
That was as close as the Waratahs would get, however.
The Jaguares re-built their advantage when they were back to 15 men, with captain Agustin Creevy crashing over from a well-executed rolling maul before Matias Moroni sealed the win with a great solo effort.
