Jacobus Van Wyk grabbed a brace as the Sharks defeated the Cheetahs in a battle of the South African Super Rugby derby in Bloemfontein.
Fred Zeilinga kicked the opening score of the game with a penalty after five minutes, but having secured the restart, the Sharks marched the length of the field to score through Lwazi Mvovo.
Curwin Bosch converted and added a penalty for a 10-3 lead. When Teboho Mohoje was sin-binned, the Sharks took further advantage with Jacobus Van Wyk grabbing a try before the Cheetahs finally came to life.
First Francois Venter touched down on the half hour, a try which Zeilinga converted and the fly-half added a penalty after Coenraad Oosthuizen was sin-binned for the Sharks.
In injury time at the end of the half, JW Jonker looked to turn the tide for the Cheetahs, when his converted try saw them lead 20-15 at the break.
Zeilinga made it an two-score game five minutes after the restart but then the Sharks pounced.
Van Wyk's second try was converted by Bosch, who tagged on a penalty to put the Sharks into a 25-23 lead.
A Daniel du Preez converted try and two Bosch penalties sealed the victory, while Raymond Rhule grabbed a consolation at the death.
