Reigning Top 14 champions Racing 92 will face Clermont Auvergne in the league semifinal after defeating Montpellier 22-13 at the Altrad Stadium.
Dan Carter scored a late try on the last day of the season to clinch a place in the playoff against Montpellier but they were dominant against a Montpellier side who had Francois Steyn sin-binned after halftime and Jannie du Plessis sent off in the final minutes.
Leone Nakarawa scored inside 15 minutes, with Carter converting and although Benoit Paillaugue struck back for Montpellier they never looked like defeating Parisians despite home advantage.
Teddy Thomas touched down 24 minutes in, with Carter once more converting but two Demetri Catrakilis penalties either side of halftime brought the home side back into the game, and trailed by a point with under half an hour remaining.
But former All Blacks winger Joe Rokocoko ended any chance of a fightback as he added a try five minutes from time, with Carter slotting over a penalty to round off the victory at the death.
