Edinburgh produced a sizzling display to beat Glasgow 39-6 at Murrayfield to leapfrog their old rivals into second place in the Magners League.
The hosts made a powerful start and the early pressure forced Glasgow into offending at a ruck, giving Phil Godman the simple task of slotting the first points. His opposite number Dan Parks was handed an instant opportunity to get Warriors back on level terms but pushed his effort wide of the target.
The initial sparring session had been predictably jittery and error-strewn with neither team keen to experiment. Parks jumped back into the limelight three minutes later, and this time he was spot-on to square the contest.
Warriors looked the more settled outfit approaching the midway point of the half, but there was more frustration for marksman Parks as he watched his next penalty attempt slide past. And the capital troops capitalised on his inconsistency when Godman banged one over at the other end to edge them back in front.
His strike spurred the Gunners into attacking mode and their enterprise was rewarded in the 25th minute. Captain Mike Blair could not believe his luck as a shocking pass from Parks bounced ideally for him to break away and dash over for the crucial opening try.
Godman followed up with the conversion to leave Glasgow with plenty to think about. Even worse was to come for the visitors as Godman completed his penalty treble, stretching the gap to 13 points.
Warriors repaired some of the damage thanks to the boot of Parks, who rediscovered his range following yet another scrappy and disjointed sequence. Referee Neil Paterson finally lost his patience over the persistent infringements by both teams and yellow-carded home flanker Scott Newlands.
Glasgow carved out a great chance to narrow the gap further but captain Ally Kellock spilled the ball at a vital moment. Worried Warriors came back out with all guns blazing and seemed to burst the match wide open within two minutes of the second half starting, however the video referee chalked off Kelly Brown's effort.
It was a massive setback for Glasgow and from that moment on they did not compete. Within five minutes their night of misery became even worse as Simon Webster scorched in for the second Edinburgh try, converted by Godman.
Godman had the locals in the 12,534 crowd roaring yet again almost immediately when another debatable decision - this time for a late challenge - allowed him to add to his penalty tally. He repeated the feat to wipe out any prospect of a miraculous Glasgow rally.
The bonus-point rout was capped by tries from man-of-the-match Hugo Southwell and Ben Cairns.
