Match Commentary

81'+163-0 End of second half
80'New Zealand no doubt will be disappointed not to have troubled the scorers in the final quarter, and handling errors were key in that fact. No more so than Beauden Barrett spilling the ball unopposed after breaking out from deep inside his own territory But equally they were playing fast and flat in greasy conditions, and they'll be rapt with their defensive effort to blank Canada.
79'New Zealand linespeed in defence is something else, and it's key for Canada's inability to make ground with ball in hand.
75'Canada on attack inside New Zealand 22 after Atunaisa Moli penalised for a neck roll at a ruck on halfway. Canada once again lose their own throw and All Blacks go through phases to clear lines before Jordie Barrett clears deep up field.
73'Canada trying to play out of their own territory but they are simply unable to get through or around the New Zealand defence before being forced into a box kick the Beauden Barrett collects with aplomb.
73'Substitute on - DTH Van Der Merwe , Canada
73'Player substituted - Taylor Paris , Canada
72'Wonderful first-phase attack to the left from a New Zealand scrum, with Brad Weber, Richie Mo'unga and Ben Smith working well on the blindside. Weber sightly overruns his support line, however, and cannot pull in the pass back from Smith. Another certain try-scoring opportunity goes begging.
71'Player substituted - Matt Todd , New Zealand
71'Substitute on - Ardie Savea , New Zealand
71'Substitute on - Sam Whitelock , New Zealand
71'Player substituted - Patrick Tuipulotu , New Zealand
71'Substitute on - Codie Taylor , New Zealand
71'Player substituted - Liam Coltman , New Zealand
70'Ardie Savea becomes the first player in Rugby World Cup history to wear a pear of goggles during a match.
69'Player substituted - Djustice Sears-Duru , Canada
69'Substitute on - Hubert Buydens , Canada
68'Handling errors increasing as the game continues.
66'Player substituted - Gordon McRorie , Canada
66'Substitute on - Phil Mack , Canada
65'Little lull in the game here for just under 10 minutes. Couple of opportunities for the All Blacks but resilient defence from Canada combined with a couple more handling errors mean when seen no more tries since Brad Weber touched town for the second time.
61'Player substituted - DTH Van Der Merwe , Canada
61'Substitute on - Taylor Paris , Canada
61'Substitute on - Mike Sheppard , Canada
61'Player substituted - Conor Keys , Canada
59'63-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
57'61-0 Try - Brad Weber , New Zealand
56'Just brilliant from the All Blacks, with Brad Weber scoring after a set play from a midfield scrum on halfway. Flat backline, and the scrum-half fed Jordie Barrett at first receiver, who gave the ball to Richie Mo'unga running a cutline and feeding Weber with a super pop pass.
54'Canada back inside the New Zealand 22 after a couple of penalties, but again the All Blacks steal the lineout and a couple of kicks later the ABs have a lineout just the Canadian side of halfway. Just can't afford to lose so much of your own ball, let alone against the All Blacks.
52'Player substituted - Patrick Parfrey , Canada
52'Substitute on - Andrew Coe , Canada
52'Player substituted - Sonny Bill Williams , New Zealand
52'Substitute on - Ben Smith , New Zealand
52'Substitute on - Ofa Tu'ungafasi , New Zealand
52'Player substituted - Nepo Laulala , New Zealand
51'56-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
50'Brad Weber scores under the posts after following the midfield break from Beauden Barrett, but what hands from Richie Mo'unga to pull down a consted kick on the right. Sweet hands from the fly-half.
50'54-0 Try - Brad Weber , New Zealand
49'Substitute on - Jake Ilnicki , Canada
49'Player substituted - Cole Keith , Canada
49'49-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
47'New Zealand now running riot. Shannon Frizzell crosses from a midfield ruck, taking a simple ball after a bust from Rieko Ioane playing away from his wing. Simple play, and simple execution.
47'47-0 Try - Shannon Frizell , New Zealand
46'Player substituted - Evan Olmstead , Canada
46'Substitute on - Josh Larsen , Canada
46'42-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
45'Scott Barrett crashes over after seven phases and great work from Richie Mo'unga and Kieran Read to set up the lock. All three Barrett brothers now have scored a try against Canada.
45'40-0 Try - Scott Barrett , New Zealand
43'35-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
41'We're back underway through Peter Nelson, who puts up a shallow kick to contest but Canada knock on and New Zealand have the ball. Two phases later, after Jordie Barrett pulls down a contested midfield bomb to the right wing, Sonny Bill Williams ghosts through the Canada defence before gifting a score to Rieko Ioane on the left wing.
41'Player substituted - Eric Howard , Canada
41'Substitute on - Andrew Quattrin , Canada
41'33-0 Try - Rieko Ioane , New Zealand
41'Substitute on - Ryan Crotty , New Zealand
41'Player substituted - Jack Goodhue , New Zealand
41'Player substituted - TJ Perenara , New Zealand
41'Substitute on - Brad Weber , New Zealand
41'28-0 End of first half
40'New Zealand have done plenty right through the first hal, but they'll be disappointed by the number of handling errors in the greasy conditions under the roof at Oita Stadium. Canada have shown great resilience after conceding two tries so early, and they've even had a couple of chances. We'll be back shortly with the second half.
40'28-0 Start of second half
38'Rieko Ioane slams Tyler Ardron into touch on the left wing deep inside NZ territory, and the All Blacks take a quick lineout to launch a swift counterattack deep into Canada territory after another kick behind the line from Sonny Bill Williams. More phases to the left before Shannon Frizzell knocks on in contact and New Zealand then are penalised for joining the ensuing ruck from the side.
37'28-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
36'Beauden Barrett scores under the posts after a lovely first-phase grubber kick from Sonny Bill Williams.
36'26-0 Try - Beauden Barrett , New Zealand
35'New Zealand absolutely monster Canada at the scrum awarded after Patrick Tuipulotu had knocked on. That was a statement move to work out frustrations of handling errors.
32'Much better defence from Canada in the past 10 minutes. New Zealand still creating opportunities, despite increasing handling errors, but Canada showing a little more steel in defence.
31'Strong NZ scrum on the 22 lineout, and Jordie Barrett makes a bust in midfield as first receiver. Rieko Ioane makes ground on the right wing and Scott Barrett bombs a certain try -- losing the ball as he went over the line.
29'Little spell of scrappy skills from New Zealand, and Canada remain deep on the offensive, but All Blacks steal two lineouts to minimise the threat.
26'Substitute on - Nepo Laulala , New Zealand
26'Player substituted - Angus Ta'avao , New Zealand
24'Canada win the lineout, and attempt to set up a drive but New Zealand stop the momentum and the maul goes nowhere. Disappointing end for Canada, but solid defence from New Zealand.
23'Kieran Read penalised for a tackle with "no arms". Canada kick the penalty for a 5m lineout.
22'Briliant counterattack from Canada, after Gordon McRorie steals the ball from Sonny Bill Williams while hard on defence. Peter Nelson takes the ball deep inside NZ territory but he's unable to outpace Beauden Barrett as he goes for the tryline.
20'Matt Todd just quietly having a monster game as the New Zealand openside.
19'21-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
17'New Zealand making a major statement here. Not with the ease of their dominance, but with their focus on power and structure. Everything a result of getting over the gainline in the first or second phase. Focus on the basics.
17'Massive bust through the midfield defence from Kieran Read. Matt Todd produces another huge run, and Sonny Bill Williams runs runs through his one-on-one defender.
17'19-0 Try - Sonny Bill Williams , New Zealand
15'T.J. Perenara denied a try in the left corner after trying to sneak across from a ruck, but wonderful hands from Sonny Bill Williams with a pop offload to Jordie Barrett a key feature in the first-phase lead up to the movement.
11'Tremendous charge forward from Eric Howard in midfield after the New Zealand lineout went awry, but New Zealand defuse the situation after a subsequent kick behind is collected by Richie Mo'unga for a mark.
10'14-0 Conversion - Richie Mo'unga , New Zealand
9'More great work from the All Blacks' pack in the middle of the field. Richie Mo'unga puts up a perfect cross-field kick for Jordie Barrett to touch down unopposed on the right wing.
9'12-0 Try - Jordie Barrett , New Zealand
6'Confirmed just now that the penalty try was awarded against Canada for standing up in the scrum.
6'All Blacks building phases, with Jack Goodhue, T.J. Perenara and Kieran Read busting the line before handling errors in the humid conditions. DTH Van Der Merwe concedes a penalty. Canada will be disappoointed by the ease by which New Zealand are breaking their defence.
5'Dominant scrum from New Zealand. Penalty try awarded as Canada interfered with Kieran Read at the base of the scrum.
5'7-0 Penalty try
4'Three resets, and Canada penalised with a free-kick. We have a fourth scrum.
2'New Zealand have a five metre scrum centre field.
1'New Zealand are held up under the posts after eight phases immediately after collecting the kick-off. Key work from Scott Barrett, Jack Goodhue and Matt Todd.
1'We're under way with Beauden Barrett kicking off for New Zealand. All Blacks win the contested ball, and they're on the front foot immediately.
1'Preliminaries of anthems and haka are all done, and we're about to kick off. Bookmark this from Sam Bruce about what the haka means to T.J. Perenara to read after the match.
1'Kieran Read has won the toss, and the All Blacks will kick off running left to right. Remember they have not yet ever lost a Rugby World Cup pool match.
1'Hello, and welcome to our Live Text Commentary of the Rugby World Cup Pool B match between New Zealand and Canada in Oita, Japan.

This likely should be a straightforward affair for the All Blacks, who have defeated Canada in all five Tests between the teams, including three Rugby World Cup matches. Only once have the three-time champions chasing a hat-trick of titles failed to post at least 60 points, or win by 50+ points; that came in the first fixture between the teams, when they won 29-13 in Lille at Rugby World Cup 1991. The teams last faced each other at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, in New Zealand, where the All Blacks won 79-15.
