Match Commentary

81'57-3 End of second half
78'Continuing errors from both sides, and the fixture is fizzling out. Interesting footage of Namibia coach Phil Davies looking disconsolate, and Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus showing incredible frustration to smah his fist against a desk after another South African handling error.
78'Substitute on - Helarius Kisting , Namibia
78'Player substituted - Chad Plato , Namibia
76'Player substituted - Louis van der Westhuizen , Namibia
76'Substitute on - Obert Nortje , Namibia
76'Player substituted - AJ de Klerk , Namibia
76'Substitute on - Chad Plato , Namibia
72'South Africa effect another turnover with strong linespeed to capitalise on a sloppy pass to Janco Venter behind a Namibia ruck, but the Boks' performance now is mixing skills with errors. Very stop start with the intensity long having left the fixture -- if ever it was there.
70'Lood de Jager steals a tapback from a Namibian lineout, and then makes maybe 20 metres with a strong carry. Tremendous leg drive.
70'Substitute on - Steven Kitshoff , South Africa
70'Player substituted - Tendai Mtawarira , South Africa
68'South Africa continuing to show great linespeed in defence, meaning that Namibia are working predominantly well behind the gainline and hence are struggling to generate go-forward.
67'Player substituted - Chad Plato , Namibia
67'Substitute on - AJ de Klerk , Namibia
66'57-3 Conversion - Elton Jantjies , South Africa
64'Elton Jantjies puts the Boks onto the 5m line for another lineout, and Schalk Brits crosses from another driving maul to score his second try of the game.
64'Johannes Coetzee might be in trouble here. Blatant off-the-ball shoulder charge to Schalk Brits.
64'55-3 Try - Schalk Brits , South Africa
64'Yellow card - Aranos Coetzee , Namibia
64'Player substituted - Bongi Mbonambi , South Africa
64'Substitute on - Franco Mostert , South Africa
62'South Africa looking sharper with the replacements adding thrust and pace against their overmatched Namibian opponents who are now beginning to flag. Damian de Allande and Warrick Gelant are combining well, in particular.
59'50-3 Try - Siya Kolisi , South Africa
58'Siya Kolisi gets his sixth Test try, the replacement flanker crossed untouched after phase play from a lineout concluded by good hands from Damian de Allende and Warrick Gelant.
58'Player substituted - RG Snyman , South Africa
58'Substitute on - Eben Etzebeth , South Africa
57'Not something you see too ofter: Eugene Jantjies penalised for a crooked scrum feed; is there ever a straight feed in any game these days?
57'Player substituted - Herschel Jantjies , South Africa
57'Substitute on - Cobus Reinach , South Africa
56'Elton Jantjies and Frans Steyn each putting up cross kicks to spread the play from side to side, and South Africa perhaps looking to try a few things albeit that they must retain shape and discipline to maintain the pressure on their overmatched opponents.
56'Substitute on - Damian de Allende , South Africa
56'Player substituted - Lukhanyo Am , South Africa
55'45-3 Conversion - Elton Jantjies , South Africa
54'Great score from Makazole Mapimpi, the winger running a line inside Schalk Brits to take a no-look reverse pass from his captain who had picked up the ball from the base of a strong scrum. Winger still had space to cover, but showed great pace to cross untouched.
54'43-3 Try - Makazole Mapimpi , South Africa
53'Substitute on - Siya Kolisi , South Africa
53'Player substituted - Kwagga Smith , South Africa
52'Namibia clear their lines nicely, after a quick lineout to avoid the set-piece
50'Johan Trompe has another kick charged down. The fullback seems to need too much time under pressure. Namibia's clearing kick from deep behind their own goal fails to find touch, and Makazole Mapimpi and then Elton Jantjies are stopped -- the latter by a fine covering tackle from Johan Deysel.
50'Substitute on - Johan Deysel , Namibia
50'Player substituted - PJ Walters , Namibia
50'Substitute on - Janco Venter , Namibia
50'Player substituted - Adriaan Booysen , Namibia
50'Substitute on - Wian Conradie , Namibia
50'Player substituted - Thomasau Forbes , Namibia
50'Substitute on - Aranos Coetzee , Namibia
50'Player substituted - AJ de Klerk , Namibia
50'Substitute on - Andre Rademeyer , Namibia
50'Player substituted - Des Sethie , Namibia
50'38-3 Conversion - Elton Jantjies , South Africa
48'Warrick Gelant scores after Makazole Mapimpi collects a clearing kick from Namibia. South Africa spin the ball, and Gelant puts Lukhanyo Am into space. The fullback runs a great support line to take the return pass and then clears away from the covering defence. Great try in the corner, and Elton Jantjies' conversion from wideout is sensational.
48'36-3 Try - Warrick Gelant , South Africa
46'Tremendous kick from Elton Jantjies in first-phase play from a scrum on their 22, finding space inside Namibia's 22. Johan Trompe cannot kick such is the chasing pressure, and he's closed down. PJ Walters' kick is charged down into touch, and Namibia under further pressure.
46'Player substituted - Vincent Koch , South Africa
46'Substitute on - Thomas du Toit , South Africa
44'Best scrum of the game from a Namibia point of view, and they go left. Adriaan Booysen runs hard through contact before one of his colleagues knocks forward at the ensuing breakdown.
42'Namibia build pases but again to no effect. Ball carriers felled behind the gainline, and only progress comes when Francois Louw is pinged offside at the breakdown. Penalty goal attempt from 40 metres, straight in front. Cliven Louser's kick hits the right upright, however, and South AFrica clear their lines to the 10m line on their right flank.
41'We're back underway in Toyota, with Namibia kicking off. South Africa collect and clear and then fail to take full opportunity out wide after Johan Tromp had knocked on. Springboks spill the ball with space out wide, and they'll be disappointed as the try looked on.
41'+231-3 End of first half
41'+129-3 Try - Lukhanyo Am , South Africa
41'+231-3 Conversion - Elton Jantjies , South Africa
40'And that's halftime. South Africa thoroughly dominant at City of Toyota Stadium, but they'll be a little concerned about some of their execution at times given the ball they have had.
40'South Africa attack, with ball going though hands in multiple phases -- Makazole Mapimpi and Warrick Gelant involved on multiple occasions -- before Schalk Brits draws two defenders and pops a pass to Lukhanyo Am to cross for his second Test try.
40'Game has gone into a lull, neither side able to get firmly on the front foot.
40'31-3 Start of second half
33'And Namibia can't get Channel 1 ball. They're driven off their ball, and concede a free-kick. Springboks completely dominant in the scrummage. Regardless of opposition, the Boks' set-piece is good.
33'Namibia deep into South African territory despite a rough scrummage. Great kick from Eugene Jantjies, and Makazole Mapimpi was held up in a maul after collecting the ball. Scrum for Namibia. Can they get channel 1 ball?
31'Elton Jantjies might want his first 30 minutes back. He's missed a conversion and one kick for touch, and he's just knocked on in contact - albeit that the ball to him put him under pressure behind the gainline.
27'Wonderful try on the left wing from Makazole Mapimpi, after a cutout ball from Herschel Janjies at the base of a ruck. Warrick Gelant takes the ball at pace, and puts his winger into the clear. The pass from Jantjies seemed to have a lot of "forward" about it, but the referee lets it go. South Africa have their bonus point.
27'24-3 Try - Makazole Mapimpi , South Africa
24'19-3 Penalty goal - Cliven Loubser , Namibia
21'Namibia strike out wide with a first-phase set-play attack from a lineout on their own 5m. Thomasau Forbes puts JC Greyling into space and the centre runs deep into South African territory. He's pulled down by a desperate Frans Steyn, but Tendai Mtawarira joins the ruck from an offside position, and Namibia will have a kick for points.
20'Namibia build a couple of phases, but they're going nowhere but backwards before a somewhat aimless box kick from scrum-half Eugene Jantjies.
19'19-0 Conversion - Elton Jantjies , South Africa
17'South Africa are looking set for a huge score. Clinical and efficient, scoring from three 5m lineouts, but Namibia simply must do better. Basics are poor from Namibia.
17'Mbongeni Mbonambi touches down for the second time in the game, the hooker scoring from yet another lineout drive.
17'17-0 Try - Bongi Mbonambi , South Africa
17'Yellow card - Adriaan Booysen , Namibia
16'Devastating break from Frans Steyn, who collects the kickoff and sets off down the field. The center links with S'bu Nkosi and the Springboks are back on the Namibian 22. Attack comes to nought only because Adriaan Booysen hangs out a hand and the Namibia No.8 is yellow carded for a deliberate knock-on.
15'Francois Louw crashes over for the second try of the game, the flanker touching down from the back of another rolling maul. Such a devastating weapon when effected correctly, but equally Namibia seem to have no idea how to defend it.
15'12-0 Try - Francois Louw , South Africa
13'South Africa have had 87% possession through the first 13 minutes. All you need to know about the state of this game.
12'Namibia are trying to play running rugby, but execution is failing them and leading to increased pressure deep inside their territory.
11'Namibia kick-off only for Frans Steyn to collect the ball unopposed. He roosts the ball deep into Namibian territory, and Namibia are penned back with solid defence.
11'7-0 Conversion - Elton Jantjies , South Africa
10'5-0 Try - Bongi Mbonambi , South Africa
9'South Africa kick the penalty for a 5m lineout. Lood de Jager collects and sets up a driving maul, and Mbongeni Mbonambi crashes over after a second shove.
7'Herschel Jantjies runs from the base of the scrum, but he's held up. Boks go back left towards Makazole Mapimpi, through a cross kick from Elton Jantjies, but it's a poor kick. South Africa have another opportunity, however, as Namibia are offside in defence.
6'Namibia disrupt that scrum, but do so illegally. Another scrum penalty.
5'Another massive Springboks scrum, and the Namibian set-piece folds. Boks awarded a penalty, and South Africa elect to scrummage again.
4'Schalk Brits thought he'd scored the first try of the game. The Boks' scrum got go forward and the No. 8 for the night touched the ball on the post, only for the TMO to point out that the loosie had dropped the ball in contact.
3'Powerful runs from both Springboks locks, Lood de Jager and R.G. Snyman, but Namibia's defence holds up. Boks now have a 5m scrum under the posts.
2'Springboks choose to power up a driving maul, but Namibia hold them up. Boks put the ball through air, and Wirrick Gelant ghosts into space only to be stopped by desperate defence.
1'Cliven Loubser hammers the ball into the stands, the Namibians showing little inclination to play behind the siren. South Africa have run out comfortable winners, but that was expected. They played well enough in patches, but errors and failure to execute in parts will upset them.
1'Namibia immediately under pressure after a kick charged down, and South Africa have a lineout inside the 22.
1'Typically passionate rendition of the anthems, and we're under way with Elton Jantjies kicking off.
1'Schalk Brits has won the toss, and the Springboks will kick off.
1'Hello, and welcome to our live text commentary of the Rugby World Cup Pool B fixture between South Africa and Namibia. Both sides opened their campaigns with a defeat, by New Zealand and Italy respectively, but the Springboks remain strong candidates to make the final and they'll expect to record a facile victory against their southern African neighbours, who are yet to win a RWC match in 20 attempts.

That said, Ireland no doubt expected to roll over Japan, and we know how that worked out.

Here's a great feature by Chris Jones about Namibia and the hopes that good performances against South Africa, and New Zealand next week, will set them up for their attempt to record their first World Cup win, at what will then be the 23rd attempt, against Canada.

Here's our preview of the game and all the action this weekend.
