Giants rookie Cam Skattebo defends Monday night 'Raw' appearance

WWE, NFL, New York Giants

Cam Skattebo is going to live his life, regardless of what the critics think.

The rookie New York Giants running back faced plenty of criticism Tuesday morning after taking part in a WWE skit at "Raw" in Madison Square Garden on Monday night. It stemmed from being part of a scripted melee alongside teammates, despite recovering from a serious ankle injury.

Skattebo no longer needs a scooter, but he's still wearing a boot on his injured right ankle -- and his activity this week made clear he doesn't plan on laying low.

Skattebo, fellow rookie Abdul Carter and a bunch of other Giants teammates got into it with Judgment Day (Finn Bálor, JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio) ringside at Madison Square Garden on a night when legend John Cena was making his final appearance on "Raw." Comedian Andrew Schulz was part of the fake melee, too.

In the ultimate New York show, Skattebo was seated ringside wearing a New York Rangers jersey. Defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris rocked a New York Yankees jersey. Carter seemed to have a Giants belt draped over his shoulder as he threw haymakers.

Just weeks removed from ditching a scooter for his casted foot, Skattebo was right in the middle of the pushing and shoving on Monday night.

After going face-to-face with McDonagh, Skattebo started the scuffle with a two-handed shove against the WWE star. Thankfully, security intervened rather quickly.

The "Raw" appearance put a wrap on a busy few days for Skattebo, who was also at UFC 322 over the weekend, which took place at Madison Square Garden.

His teammates undoubtedly noticed, especially his part in the WWE act, and had his back.

"Cam's crazy," standout left tackle Andrew Thomas said.

"I wasn't there last night. But you best believe I was fighting. I was fighting at home, though, telling him to duck and sit down," fellow running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. said. "But Cam's a wild man. Cam's a wild man. So, I mean, everybody knows that. So, he is going to go out there and do what he do."
