Glover slaps Taipans in Phoenix's big road win

Angus Glover has spearheaded another South East Melbourne thrashing of NBL bottom side Cairns on his return from injury, firing off six three-pointers in a comprehensive 101-90 road win.

Glover, who missed two games last week with an ankle issue, moved freely on Friday night and led the way with a game-high 24 points.

Nathan Sobey (17 points), John Brown III (13) and Owen Foxwell (10) also contributed for the Phoenix, who racked up a triple-figure score for the sixth time in 11 outings this season.

Josh King's men led by as much as 27 points in the second half before taking their foot off the gas.

It was enough for SEM to improve to 8-3, continuing their strong start to the campaign, while the injury-hit Taipans (3-10) coughed up 19 turnovers in a sloppy performance.

Cairns were competitive early but a technical foul against coach Adam Forde for stepping onto the court got their second period off to a bad start.

A 7-0 Phoenix run gave the visitors a double-figure buffer and Glover caught fire in the second period.

He sunk 17 first-half points on 6-of-9 shooting to lead his side to a 25-point advantage at the main break.

Glover's tally included 5-of-8 from long range as the Phoenix drained a dozen three-pointers in the first half, while Cairns had 11 turnovers.

The Taipans showed some fight, winning the second half 53-37, but were never close enough to mount a serious challenge.

Five Cairns scorers were in double digits, led by Jack McVeigh (22 points), Mojave King (16) and Admiral Schofield (14).
