This weekend officially belongs to LSU's Ben Simmons and Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, and why not? I'm excited to see those two on the same court just as any sentient and rabid hoops fan should be. Since my colleague Eamonn Brennan has already limned that impending collision superbly, however, I wanted to give equal time to some less heralded outliers. It's time to recognize the most outstanding mid-major performers thus far this season. Just so there's no confusion, for the purposes of this list, I wanted to look at players not only outside of the major conferences but also beyond the relatively well-recognized likes of the Atlantic 10, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and West Coast Conference. As a result stars, such as Domantas Sabonis, Kyle Wiltjer, Stephen Zimmerman, Fred VanVleet, Ron Baker, Egidijus Mockevicius, DeAndre Bembry, Terry Allen, James Webb, great players all, were considered off-limits. These are my selections as the top 10 mid-major players in the nation:
