European soccer recap: Forest strike three past Liverpool, Newcastle beat City

European club soccer returned to action following the final international break of 2025 and we had some thrilling matches on Saturday.

The big shock of the day was Nottingham Forest scoring three past Liverpool, for yet another 3-0 loss in the Premier League, but then Newcastle United defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the late game.

Earlier, Enzo Maresca's Chelsea picked up an important 2-0 win over Burnley, Bournemouth drew with West Ham United 2-2, Brighton & Hove Albion beat Brentford 2-1, Fulham overcame Sunderland 1-0, and Crystal Palace saw off Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0.

Elsewhere, Barcelona beat Athletic Club 4-0 in LaLiga as they returned to the Camp Nou stadium for the first time in a while, and Bayern Munich came from 2-0 down to down Freiburg 6-2 n the Bundesliga.
