Newcastle United began their preseason campaign with a 4-0 defeat to Celtic, as Kieran Tierney made his long-awaited return at Celtic Park.
Eddie Howe named a strong side for the trip to Glasgow, but it was the Scottish champions who led 2-0 at the break after an Arne Engels penalty and a goal from Johnny Kenny on the strong of half time.
Nine changes were made at the interval, including a debut for Anthony Elanga following his move from Nottingham Forest, as well as other club stars including Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali.
Those changes failed to have the desired effect though and Yang Hyun-Jun made it 3-0 to Celtic after 53 minutes.
Tierney then entered the field on a day to remember for Celtic fans, after he returned to Glasgow from Arsenal, and it took him just 19 minutes to assist fellow substitute Liam Scales to make the score 4-0.
Newcastle will now head to Asia for the next stage of their preseason, taking on Arsenal in Singapore on July 27, before heading to South Korea to face a K-League Select XI on July 30 and Tottenham on Aug. 3.
They then have two further preseason matches against Spanish sides Espanyol and Atlético Madrid at St. James' Park on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, before their Premier League opener on Aug. 16 at Aston Villa.
