Kylian Mbappé helped himself to the second fastest hat trick in Champions League history and four goals in total as Real Madrid came from behind to beat Olympiacos 4-3 in Piraeus.

The LaLiga leaders were trailing to Chiquinho's early strike at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis when the France superstar launched his one-man mission, scoring after 22, 24 and 29 minutes and then again on the hour to take his Madrid tally for the season to 22 goals, nine of them in Europe.

Only Mohamed Salah, who struck three times inside six minutes and 12 seconds in Liverpool's 7-1 demolition of Rangers in October 2022, is ahead of him in the list of quickfire trebles in the competition.

A much-changed Madrid side started in positive mood when the unplayable Vinícius Júnior drove forward unopposed before unleashing a third-minute shot from distance which keeper Konstantinos Tzolakis did well to turn over.

But the hosts saw plenty of the ball early on and took a shock lead when Daniel Podence, on loan to the Greek side from Wolves, combined superbly with Chiquinho and Ayoub El Kaabi for the Portuguese midfielder to fire sweetly past keeper Andriy Lunin with just eight minutes gone.

Lunin had to pull off a fine one-handed save after Chiquinho was allowed to run on to Lorenzo Pirola's headed 19th-minute clearance with Olympiacos pushing for a second.

However, the tables were turned as Xabi Alonso's men struck with a devastating double blow, Vinícius picking out Mbappé with a fine 22nd-minute ball over the top for the Frenchman to finish before Arda Güler crossed for him to head firmly home two minutes later.

There was worse to come for the home side when Eduardo Camavinga played in Mbappé once again and he beat Tzolakis with ease to complete his treble.

The home side's fortunes improved slightly when Vinicius saw a fourth goal ruled out for offside and Aurelien Tchouameni's effort came back off the bar, and Lunin had to save El Kaabi's stoppage time header as an eventful first half drew to a close.

Vinicius whipped a shot inches wide three minutes after the restart, but Olympiacos were back in it four minutes later when Santiago Hezze crossed for fellow substitute Mehdi Taremi to head firmly past Lunin.

Tzolakis denied Vinicius at the end of a fleet-footed 57th-minute run, but was powerless to resist three minutes later when the winger skipped away from defender Panagiotis Retsos before squaring for Mbappé to score again.

El Kaabi headed the Greeks back to within a goal with nine minutes remaining and then shot agonisingly wide as Alonso's side edged their way to a first win in four games.
