Real Madrid v Espanyol
Kylian Mbappé scores again as Real Madrid beat Espanyol 2-0
Éder Militão and Kylian Mbappé were on target as Real Madrid beat Espanyol 2-0 on Saturday to extend their lead at the top of LaLiga.
Espanyol came to the Bernabeu hopeful of an upset after a strong start to the season, but Militão scored midway through the first half before Mbappé doubled the hosts' lead at the start of the second.
Jude Bellingham, meanwhile, made his first appearance of the season after coming on for Mbappé late on. The England international had been sidelined since the Club World Cup following shoulder surgery.
The result means Xabi Alonso still boasts a 100% league record as Madrid manager, winning all five of his games in charge.
Militão broke the deadlock in spectacular fashion on 22 minutes when he picked up the ball 30 yards from goal and moved forward before unleashing an unstoppable effort past goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic for his first goal in almost a year.
Boosted by their breakthrough, Real came close to adding a second before the interval as Mbappé tried to surprise Dmitrovic from a tight angle but fired into the side netting.
It took only two minutes of the second half for Real to double their lead and it was another classy finish from Mbappé, who lofted a superbly judged effort past Dmitrovic from 25 yards.
A fired-up Mbappé chipped another effort just over and came close again after Vinícius Júnior had hit the post following a defensive mix-up but the Frenchman's follow-up was deflected out for a corner.
Espanyol had few chances to find their way back into the contest and their best hope came in the 67th minute when Real defender Dani Carvajal was fortunate not to deflect a cross past his own keeper, Thibaut Courtois.
Dmitrovic saved again from Vinícius with the minutes ticking down, and with the points assured, Bellingham's introduction in place of Mbappé brought the Bernabeu back to life.
