Hawaii hires Takahara-Dias as coach

HONOLULU -- Hawaii has hired former point guard Dana Takahara-Dias to be its women's basketball coach.

She succeeds Jim Bolla, who was fired in April and has filed a wrongful termination lawsuit. Athletics director Jim Donovan made the announcement Thursday.

Takahara-Dias played for the Rainbow Wahine in the 1980s and served as an administrative assistant under former coach Vince Goo. She walked-on at Hawaii in 1984, playing 80 games in four seasons and serving as team captain her senior year. She averaged 2.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

Takahara-Dias coached at Moanalua High School in the 1990s and a state prep all-star team since 2006.
